DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 20, 2001) - Grand American Road Racing Association President Roger Edmondson announced today that Hoosier Racing Tire would remain the official tire manufacturer and sole supplier to the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series through the 2004 season. Hoosier was the official tire during the series' inaugural 2001 season and had previously been official tire for the Motorola Cup Series.
"We are quite pleased to renew our agreement with Hoosier as the Grand-Am Cup tire supplier," Edmondson commented. "I had the opportunity to visit their production facility earlier this year. I came away very impressed with their commitment to the racing industry. You don't have to look any further than the competition in Grand-Am Cup to know they are the perfect tire for close, exciting racing."
"Hoosier is proud to continue our relationship with Grand-Am as the spec tire supplier for the Street Stock Series," Hoosier's Dennis Sherman offered. "From a technology viewpoint, this series is extremely beneficial for Hoosier because of the diverse tire sizes and the endurance format. We are also proud to work with the Grand American Road Racing Association. We consider them the premier road racing sanctioning group."
The new agreement is also drawing praise from competitors. "That's excellent news. As a team owner it's important for the sanctioning body to show that kind of stability so we can present a sound business case to our sponsors," noted John Powell, owner of the series leading Powell Motorsports Sunoco/Encompass-sponsored Corvette. "As competitors, we love racing on Hoosier tires. They're stickier than street tires, but not so much that they overcome the car. This is definitely our first choice of tires we want on our cars."
Hoosier Racing Tire is the largest race tire manufacturer in the world, making tires for all types of competition from dirt tracks to drag racing, oval racing and road racing. The company has provided "spec" tires for a number of other race organizations including NASCAR, ARCA and
