KILGORE,
TX (April 4) -- Having won over 75% of the races in 2001, Team-Hoosier
picked up right where they left off in the World of Outlaws Gumout
Series by capturing the top eight positions in the 30-lap season
opener at Lone Star Speedway Thursday night. Danny Lasoski took over
the race lead on lap 26 after Tyler Walker and Steve Kinser, who were
running 1-2 at the time, tangled with a lapped car. In addition to
claiming the top eight and nine out of the top ten in the feature,
Team-Hoosier also posted the five fastest times in qualifying, won all
three heat races, and won both dash races to complete the perfect opening
night performance.
There were 23 cars on hand for qualifying--19
on Hoosiers. Danny Lasoski set fast time around the 3/8-mile oval and
was one of 20 cars to break the old track record set by Jeff Swindell
in 1984. Lasoski earned the Ronald Laney Fast Time Award with his time
of 13.059 seconds. Steve Kinser was second fastest with a time of
13.138 seconds. Daryn Pittman, last year's Gumout Champion, was third
at 13.176 seconds. Shane Stewart (13.325) and Kraig Kinser (13.350)
rounded out the all-Hoosier top five in qualifying. Jason Johnson,
Tyler Walker and Jason Sides were each winners in their respective
heat races on Hoosier tires. Both dash winners also used Hoosier
tires. Tyler Walker and Shane Stewart each captured a dash win. In
the 30-lap feature, Danny Lasoski used a pair of Hoosier RD12's and
led the first 22 laps before giving way to Tyler Walker. Walker led
until lap 26 when he and Steve Kinser, who was running second at the
time, were taken out by a lapped car giving the lead back to Danny
Lasoski. Lasoski led the remaining five laps to take the win. Jason
Sides used a D10/D12 combination and finished in second with Travis
Rilat taking third for the 1-2-3 Team-Hoosier finish. Rounding out the
top eight were: Gary Wright, fourth; Tyler Walker, fifth; Shane
Stewart, sixth; Jason Johnson, seventh; and Daryn Pittman eighth.
Brooke Tatnell finished in tenth place, giving Team-Hoosier claim to
nine of the top ten finishing positions in the season opener.
Amazingly, Walker charged from the rear of the field to finish fifth
in just five laps using a pair of Hoosier RD12's. The Gumout Series
will join up with the senior circuit, the Pennzoil World of Outlaws,
at Texas Motor Speedway Friday and Saturday night for the Southern
Bleacher Classic where Team-Hoosier was undefeated in both races at
TMS last season. Special thanks to Hoosier Tire Southwest's Joel
Boyd for providing the details for this article. |
