JETMORE,
KS (June 8) -- Tyler Walker added to his impressive list of finishes
in 2002 by winning the 5th stand-alone World of Outlaws Gumout Series
event at the Jetmore Motorplex. Walker was followed to the finish line
in the 30-lap feature by Australian Brooke Tatnell and Wayne
Johnson--all were riding on Hoosier tires. This marked the fifth time
in five Gumout events that Team-Hoosier has swept all three podium
positions.
Twenty-one cars were on hand for qualifying--17 of
them on Hoosiers. The seven fastest times were posted by drivers on
the Hoosier brand. Tyler Walker set fast time after circling the
3/8-mile oval in 12.894 seconds. Brooke Tatnell, Shane Stewart, Jason
Sides, Dennis Park, Nick Haygood and Wayne Johnson rounded out second
through seventh, respectively.
Two of the three heat races were won by Hoosier-shod
drivers. Jeremy Campbell and Shane Stewart each captured their
respective heat race wins.
Both dash races were won also won by drivers using the
Hoosier brand. Shane Stewart and Jason Sides were the dash winners.
In the 30-lap feature, winds were gusting up to 40
mph, but that didn't deter Tyler Walker and his D12/D15 combination
from passing Jason Sides en route to posting his 2nd Gumout win of the
season. The win was worth $5,000. Brooke Tatnell finished in the
runner-up position on a pair of RD12's, while Wayne Johnson took third
on a D10/D12 set-up.
The finish kept Team-Hoosier's record in Gumout
competition perfect after five stand-alone races in the 2002 season.
Special thanks to Ronnie Warman for providing the
details for this story.
Tyler Walker remains atop the Gumout standings with
1416 points followed by fellow Team-Hoosier driver Jason Sides with
1364 points. All told, four of the top five drivers in the standings
ride on the Hoosier tire brand.
The World of Outlaws Gumout Series resumes action
tonight at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS.
