LAKEVILLE,
IN (October 23) -- The World of Outlaws Gumout Series' sophomore season has
come to a close with the same outcome as the inaugural season in the
Outlaws' junior circuit, that being a series champion using USA-made
Hoosier tires.
Craig Dollansky gave Hoosier bragging rights
among tire manufacturers in 2000 when he won the Gumout championship
before stepping up to Pennzoil World of Outlaws competition in 2001.
This season, Daryn Pittman joined the growing number of teams making
the switch to the Hoosier brand after disappointing early season
results. Pittman, after three events in which a podium finish eluded
him using another tire brand, boldly bolted on the purple tire
brand. The move proved to be the right one, as Pittman and
fellow Team Hoosier member, Jason Sides became embattled in a year
long struggle for ultimate supremacy in the series. Daryn Pittman was
ultimately crowned the series champion with 4104 points. Jason Sides
took runner-up honors with 4005 points. Daryn Pittman
commented on his early-season switch to Hoosier tires, "The
decision was a difficult one to make initially, but once we did, it
was definitely the right move for our entire team. It really helped us
and picked our team up." Hoosier sprint tire product manager,
Neil Cowman commented on Pittman's championship, "I want to
congratulate Daryn and his entire team on their Gumout championship,
as well as, thank all the competitors in the series for their trust in
using our tires during the 2001 season." All told, the top four
drivers and seven of the top ten in the final Gumout point standings used
Hoosier as their brand of choice. Mike Goodman finished the 2001
season in third place with 3912 points followed by Ronald Laney with
3824 points and completing the Hoosier 1-2-3-4 sweep. Other
Hoosier-shod drivers finishing in the top ten were Brian Carlson in
seventh with 3177 points, Raymond Shank in eighth with 3134 points and
Shane Stewart in tenth place with 2974 points. In the 21 events in
2001, Team Hoosier captured 16 wins, 17 second place finishes and 14
third place finishes. Even more impressive was over half the events
ended with a Hoosier 1-2-3 finish, fully 11 races ended with an
"All-Hoosier" podium. (Click

only finished 1-2-3 in the final four races of the season, they
actually swept the top ten in the season's last race at Kansas City.
One might say, things are looking pretty good for teams using the
Hoosier brand heading into the 2002 season. All
Hoosier tires are proudly "Made in the USA". |
