PERU,
IN (August 12, 2006) -- Halen Shafer used Hoosier tires to win five consecutive
races and go undefeated in the month of July competing at Miami County (IN) Speedway in the
600cc Mini Sprint class. The talented 11-year-old is in his second season
competing in the Mini Sprint (Restrictor) class after five seasons in the
Quarter Midget ranks where he also found success on Hoosiers.
Last year, in his first season in a Mini Sprint, Halen was the 2005 Micro
Rookie-of-the-Year in the Restrictor Class at Miami County Speedway.
The Kokomo, Indiana driver has continued to improve during this his
sophomore season in Mini Sprints. Halen is currently leading the points chase
among the 17 registered drivers competing in the Restrictor Class at Miami
County Speedway. The red-haired 6th grader is also currently ranked 12th
overall in the nation.
This season has been one to remember for Halen with highlights that include;
setting a new track record in qualifying on the 1/8-mile track with a lap time
of 11.609 seconds, a 2nd place finish at the NMMA Western States Championship,
and a 10th place finish at the NMMA National Championships.
After winning his fifth consecutive race, Halen commented on the (Hoosier)
tires, "I had even more grip at the end of the race then I did at the
start of the race!"
The Shafer Racing team consists of 11-year-old driver Halen, grandpa Dick
(Shafer), father and crew
chief Todd, mom and team "boss" Stacy, and little sister Shaylee who
is very busy just being seven years old.
The Shafer Racing Team wished to thank Gamester Racing for always having
plenty of Hoosier tires available at the track every weekend.
