LAKEVILLE,
IN -- When Tyler Walker swept the final World of Outlaws Gumout Series race of 2002, he
also gave Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. its third straight championship in
the series. Walker ran exclusively on Hoosier tires throughout his
championship run winning 11 of 22 races in the series.
In the inaugural season of the Gumout Series, Craig Dollansky
won the championship using Hoosier tires. In 2001, Daryn Pittman gave the Hoosier brand its
second consecutive title when he won the series championship. That
year, the top four drivers in the final point standings used Hoosier tires.
Jason Sides, Mike Goodman, and the late Ronald Laney finished second
through fourth, respectively, on Hoosiers.
This past year, the Hoosier brand was even more dominant than
the first two seasons in claiming its third championship title. Team-Hoosier went undefeated throughout the
entire season--winning all 22 races contested during the year. Not
only did every feature winner in the series ride on Hoosier tires, the
Hoosier brand impressively finished first, second and third a
total of 19 times during the season.
In 2002, Team-Hoosier earned its third consecutive
series crown when Tyler Walker won the championship. Walker claimed the
Gumout Series championship over
Shane Stewart, Jason Sides, Wayne Johnson, and Craig Keel, who
finished second through fifth, respectively. All five drivers used the
Hoosier brand. Wayne Johnson also captured the Rookie-of-the-Year
Award. Not only did the top five drivers in the standings trust the
Hoosier brand, so did eight out
of the top ten in the final standings. Beyond the top five, Jeremy Campbell
finished seventh, Brian
Carlson eighth and Brandon Wimmer took tenth--all on Hoosier
tires.
Hoosier Open Wheel Dirt Product Manager Neil Cowman
commented on the Gumout season, "Tyler (Walker) had a great season!
He won half of the Gumout races and deserves to be the series
champion." Cowman added, "Hoosier is very proud to have been
a part of Tyler's success this season. We are also extremely pleased
to have been the 'brand-of-choice' for every champion ever crowned in the Gumout
Series."
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. wishes to congratulate
everyone who competed in the World of Outlaws Gumout Series during the
2002 season.
