JOLIET, IL (September 26-29) -- For 18 years, the 64 top NHRA Lucas
Oil Sportsman racers have come together in the $100,000 NHRA Jeg's Allstars
event. The competition was held in conjunction with the 75th
Anniversary of the NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Chicago. The
invitation-only race is for the top eight drivers in the eight classes
of the seven regional divisions of NHRA--with last year's champion
being awarded the eighth spot.
Hoosier tires were the choice of 36 of the 64 drivers in this
year's event--more than any other tire brand. When the 64-car field
was whittled down to the final round 8 of the 16 combatants rode atop
the Hoosier brand. And after the final battle, Team-Hoosier claimed
more wins than all other brands winning four class titles.
The eight Hoosier-shod cars in the finals were the most of any manufacturer.
Marty Thacker was the winner in Top Alcohol Dragster and Jay Payne was
the Top Alcohol Funny Car champion. Both drivers collected $7,000 for
their wins. Von Smith took runner-up honors in T/A Funny Car and
pocketed $2,000. Terry Emmons took the Super Stock win which was worth
$6,000, while Rick Beckstrom earned runner-up honors ($2,000) in Super
Comp. Frank Kahutek won in Super Gas ($4,500) with Gary Stinnett
($2,000) taking the runner-up spot. In Super Street, young Dustin
Richardson took runner-up honors ($2,000) in Super Street.
Division 4, the South Central Division picked up the overall win
with 1100 points and three class champions. The eight teams in
Division 4 split an additional $20,000 in award money. There was also
an additional $20,000 tow fund split among all the teams based upon
their mileage traveled to the event.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. congratulates the
"Best-of-the-Best" sportsman racers for making it to this
year's $100,000 Jeg's Allstars event.
