LEEDS, AL
(April 13-15) -- The World Karting Association's National Road Racing Series kicked off their third event of the season at Barber Motorsports Park last weekend. The United States Super Kart (USSK) Series was also on hand for their first race of the season. Although the weather was less than desirable,
Hoosier's new Road Race tires were able to bring cheer to a few of the racers despite the bleak weather conditions.
Joe Komyati, of Sarasota, FL, ran Hoosier's new R60 compound tires during
Saturday's scheduled race at Barber. Joe started in 9th position for the WKA 125 Sprint 1 class
and was able to take the lead by the end of the first lap. However, a red flag stopped the race and reset the
grid with Joe back in 9th position. For a second time, he was able to work his way to the front
of the field by the end of the first lap.
As the race continued, Joe was able to stretch his lead over second place and
win while pulling away from the competition. The Forida native posted the fastest lap time for his class and was the third fastest overall between the CIK 125 Sprint 1 and WKA 125 Sprint 1 classes. After the race, Joe commented,
"The (Hoosier) tires worked extremely well through the entire race. The more time I put on
the them the faster they went. I'm very pleased with the overall consistency of the
Hoosier tires."
The winning tire combination was a pair of 4.5/10.0-5 R60 front tires (item #22150) and
a pair of 7.1/11.0-5 R60 rear tires (item #22350).
Joe wasn't the only one to enjoy success during the weekend on Hoosiers
either.
Andy Kiker from New Jersey ran Hoosier's new R55 Super Kart tires during
Friday's practice and qualifying sessions. Although the heat and final races were canceled due to rain, Andy was able to qualify on the pole of the USSK ICE class with a time of 1:26.567 seconds.
During qualifying, Andy was able to run six laps. His fastest lap was recorded
on his sixth lap while his second best was recorded on lap number five. Andy's combination included 4.5/10.5-6 R55
front tires (item #22650) and 7.1/11.0-6 R55 rear tires (item #22850).
Hoosier would like to congratulate both Joe and Andy on their stellar
performances. Hoosier would also like to thank all of those drivers who elected to ride on
Hoosier's new Road Race tires during the event.
