the opening three-day test for the 2009 Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge
season, which started Saturday and ended Monday at Daytona International
The 2009 race season opens January 23, 2009 with the Fresh From Florida
200, which incurs a three-hour time limit, at the gorgeous 3.56-mile track.
Hoosier was on hand with the Service Team of: Jim Bartholomew, Eriks
Bers, Mike Haenes, Dave Reppert, Rick Sisk, Jeff Yute. Product Manager:
Engineer: Matt Marlow. The Florida weather felt first-rate to us from up
here in the bitter cold north, sunny and in the upper 70s and lower 80ís all
The test is the official on-track debut for several drivers, teams and cars.
The Hoosier team was well prepared to handle questions on sizes, performance
and all other tire issues. Hoosier as well as the teams are looking
forward to a wonderful 2009 racing season.
January 5, 2009 for the second straight day, Bryan Ortiz turned the fastest
time in Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge Grand Sport (GS) action during the
"Roar Before the Rolex 24" testing session, as the Puerto Rico
driver ended the day with a three-day best result of 2:00.555 (106.308 mph).
Tom Long of Freedom Autosport put the No. 146 Mazda MX-5 atop the Street Tuner
(ST) charts with a lap of 2:10.131 (98.485 mph). Kristian Skavnes, whose No.
111 Subaru Road Racing Team Subaru Legacy led Saturday's practices, laid down
a lap of 2:10.223 (98.315 mph) during Sunday afternoon's session.
