Mike Balzano wins MACS Championship on Hoosier Late Model Dirt tires.INDIANA, PA -- West Virginia's Mike Balzano won the 2005 Mid-American Championship Series (MACS) title after the season's final race was cancelled after being rained out twice. Balzano won the championship by 38 points over fellow Hoosier-shod driver Robbie Blair as five of the top six drivers in the final driver rankings rode on the Hoosier brand. Moreover, 15 of the 18 race winners during the season rode on the Indiana-based purple tire brand. Hoosier also swept the MACS events at Challenger, Lernerville and Hesston Speedways--three tracks that feature some of the toughest weekly regional late model drivers in the country.

Balzano, a 26-year racing veteran, claimed two wins during the year and amassed 17 top 5 finishes, while never finishing outside the top ten all season.

Bazano ended the season with 2465 points followed by Robbie Blair with 2427 points. Rod Conley was third with 2329 points. Conley's finish gave Team Hoosier a sweep of the top three spots in the final standings, while Alex Ferree and Devin Friese finished fifth and sixth, respectively, using the Hoosier brand.

The Pennsylvania-based Mid-American Championship Series had a phenomenal 2005 season with 326 drivers in competition from 18 different states. The series also averaged 43 cars per event and enjoyed 12 different winners in the 18 races contested this year.

The MACS operates as a Super Dirt Late Model sanctioning body solely owned by brothers Jeff and Andy Geesey.

MACS has been in existence since 1997 and before that operated as the North East Winners Series (NEWS). Mike Balzano joins past winners Robbie Blair (2004), Chuck Harper (2003), Jack Pencil (2002), Mike Blose (2001), Lyn Geisler (2000 & 1999) and Denny Chamberlain (1998 & 1997).

Hoosier Oval Track Dirt Product Manager Shanon Rush commented, "Mike's consistency throughout the season was astounding and he deserves the MACS championship. Mike can add the MACS trophy to those he won in the All Star Circuit of Champions back in 1987 and the two crowns in the Renegade STARS Series in 1988 and 1989."

Rush added, "Year after year, the Geesey's have one of the most competitive and organized series. It is a great accomplishment for Hoosier to play a part in Mike Balzano winning this championship in such a competitive market area."

The entire Hoosier organization extends its congratulations to Mike Balzano and the whole #E1 Rocket Monte Carlo race team.
