LAKEVILLE,
IN -- The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) was busy over the
holiday weekend contesting three consecutive races at three different
tracks. All three dirt late model races ended with a Hoosier-shod
driver in the winner's circle. On Friday, Robbie Blair took the 50-lap
feature at Raceway 7 in Ohio and collected the $5,000 prize using a
Hoosier 29.0/11.0-15 C2000 D35 right rear tire. The following day, Chub
Frank captured the 50-lap MACS race at Stateline Speedway in New York.
"Chubzilla" used a pair of Hoosier D35 (LR/RR) tires en
route to collecting the $5,000 win. Finally on Sunday, Robbie Blair
won the 50-lap feature at Eriez Speedway in Pennsylvania. Blair used a
pair of Hoosier D28 tires to capture his second $5,000 win of the
weekend.
RACEWAY 7
CONNEAUT, OH (May 28) -- Members of Team Hoosier showed it
was quality, not quantity, that made the difference in the 50-lap
feature at Raceway 7 on Friday. When the race was over, despite being used by only
12 of the
24 feature starters, the Hoosier brand finished 1-2 in the MACS
sanctioned race that attracted 48 late model dirt specialists.
Robbie Blair, driving the Bossard-Crawford GM Store
late model, paced the 48-car field in qualifying with a 17.502 second
lap around the 3/8-mile clay oval. Five preliminary heat races
whittled the field to 24 for the night's feature.
The race began with two Hoosier-shod feature
starters on the front row. Matt Urban and Bob Close paced the field to
the green flag with fast qualifier Robbie Blair starting third. Close
took the lead from the outset with Urban in tow. Later in the race, Blair, using a 28.5/11.0-15 LSB RD12 left rear and a
29.0/11.0-15 C2000 D35 right rear combination, took over the top spot.
He went on to the $5,000 win with 11th starting Chub Frank finishing
in second place and giving the Hoosier brand a 1-2 finish.
Other top ten finishers on Hoosiers were Ryan Markham
in sixth and defending series champion Chuck Harper eighth.
STATELINE SPEEDWAY
BUSTI, NY (May 29) -- Thirty-five cars were on hand Saturday at
Stateline Speedway battling it out to gain entry into the night's "Battle by the Lake" MACS
24-car feature. For the
second time in as many nights, Robbie Blair posted fast time in
qualifying and was the only driver to break the 17-second barrier when
he circled the 1/3-mile clay oval in 16.984 seconds.
Two of the four preliminary heat races were won by
Hoosier-shod drivers including Blair and Denny Chamberlain.
In the 50-lap feature, Chub Frank took the race lead on
the 28th lap using a Hoosier 28.5/11.0-15 D35 left rear and a
29.0/11.0-15 D35 right rear combination. Once out front, Frank would
not be denied his 12th career MACS victory. Frank, a.k.a.
"Chubzilla", earned $5,000 for the win. Paul Wilmoth
finished in second place giving Team Hoosier its second consecutive
1-2 finish in the series despite having just nine of the 24 feature starters
using the purple tire brand. Previous night's winner Robbie Blair
finished in fourth place also using the Hoosier brand.
With the win, Frank becomes the series' fifth different
winner in as many events to start the 2004 season.
ERIEZ SPEEDWAY
ERIE, PA (May 30) -- Thirty cars converged
on Eriez Speedway to vie for the MACS $5,000-to-win dirt late model
payout. Despite an equal split of drivers on the Hoosier brand in the
feature (12-12), Team Hoosier would not be denied their share of the podium.
In fact, all
50 laps of the feature race were led by drivers on Hoosier tires including
the first 30 laps by Chub Frank and the final 20 laps by series points leader
Robbie Blair.
Blair, using a pair of Hoosier D28
tires, was followed to the line by three more Hoosier-shod drivers
which was the best finish of the season for Team Hoosier. Paul Wilmoth
was runner-up for the second consecutive night. Mike Johnson finished third followed by Rod Conley giving Team Hoosier a 1-2-3-4 finish.
Ryan Markham also finished in eighth place and Ty Myers in tenth using the Hoosier brand.
Blair becomes the MACS' first repeat winner of the season.
Hoosier Late Model Dirt Product Manager Shanon Rush
commented on the three races, "Everyone using our tires did an
excellent job particularly Robbie (Blair) and Chub (Frank). They have
stuck with us (Hoosier) through some trying times at these tracks and
I think we may have hit on a formidable combination of tires for these
challenging conditions."
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. appreciates all the drivers
who have decided to compete on Hoosier racing tires.
