LAKEVILLE,
IN -- The curtain fell on another NASCAR Series that Hoosier
exclusively provides tires for over the weekend. In the NASCAR
International Truck and Engine Corporation Midwest Series, Tim
Schendel won the final race of the season winning the
"Oktoberfest 250" at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in
Wisconsin, while Steve Carlson (right) captured the series title after
finishing third. It was Carlson's ninth series crown. In the NASCAR
Featherlite Modified Series, Jerry Marquis passed Tony Hirschman with
16 laps remaining to capture the win in the "Carquest Fall
Final" at Connecticut's Stafford Motor Speedway. Marquis started
back in 25th place en route to winning the 150-lap race. Just two
races remain on the 2003 series schedule. In the NASCAR Featherlite
Southwest Series, David Gilliland won his fifth race of the season yet
still finds himself in fifth place in the driver standings--228 points
behind leader Auggie Vidovich, Jr. heading into the final two races of
the season.
NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
STAFFORD SPRINGS, CT (October 5) -- Thirty-two cars took the green
flag in the Carquest Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway on Sunday.
When the race was over, Jerry Marquis had captured his second win of
the season in the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series. Marquis took the
lead with 16 laps remaining en route to the win. Ironically,
Marquis' other win was also at Stafford back in May. With the win, the
Broad Brook, CT driver pocketed $6,600 while being followed to the
finish line by Tony Hirschman, Chuck Hossfeld, Chris Kopek and Nevin
George.
Fifteen of the 32 starters finished the race on the
lead lap. Others to lead during the event were Todd Szegedy (1-85) and
Tony Hirschman (86-134). The race had eight cautions for a total of 55
laps.
Todd Szegedy, who finished in 17th, saw his lead in
the driver standings slip to just 36 points over Chuck Hossfeld
heading into the final two races of the season. John Blewett, III
lurks within striking distance of the two just 46 points out of first
place.
The next event in the series is this Sunday, October
12, at Maine's Seekonk Speedway.

INTERNATIONAL TRUCK & ENGINE CORPORATION MIDWEST SERIES
WEST SALEM, WI (October 5) -- Twenty-eight cars started the
season-ending "Oktoberfest 250" in the NASCAR Midwest Series
on Sunday at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. The race featured five
race leaders among four drivers including Eric Fransen (1-37), Tim
Schendel (38-105), Ryan Hanson, (106-149), Steve Carlson (150-164),
and Tim Schendel (165-250). Schendel (shown at left) won the race
while dominating the event leading twice for 154 laps in the 250-lap
race. The race also had just five cautions for a total of 24
laps.
Schendel collected $5,250 for the win. Following the
Sparta, WI driver to the finish line was Ryan Hanson, Steve Carlson,
Justin Diercks and Eric Fransen. Eleven of the 28 starters finished
the race on the lead lap. Rounding out the list of lead-lap finishers
were Steve Holzhausen in sixth, Tim Sauter, Nathan Haseleu, Ron
Breese, Jr., Eddie Hoffman and Brian Hoppe in seventh through eleventh
place, respectively. Schendel took the win by 1.796 seconds over
runner-up finisher Ryan Hanson.
With a third place finish, Steve Carlson captured his
9th NASCAR Midwest Series title by 65 points over Eddie Hoffman and by
128 points over Ron Breese, Jr. Brian Hoppe took fourth place, while
Tim Schendel rounded out the top five in the final driver standings.
Steve Carlson won three times in the 12 races contested this year,
while collecting over $48,000 in earnings.

NASCAR FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES
PHOENIX, AZ (October 5) -- David Gilliland topped the 35-car field in
the "Phoenixraceway.com 100" at Phoenix International
Raceway Sunday afternoon. It was Gilliland's fifth win of the season
in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series. Gilliland was followed to
the stripe by Burney Lamar, Eddy McKean, Dan Holtz and Eric Holmes.
Just four of the 35 starters finished the 105-lap race on the lead
lap. Gilliland took home $7,000 for the win, while Lamar collected
$5,500 for the runner-up spot.
Auggie Vidovich, Jr. continues to stand atop the
driver standings with 1691 points. He is followed by Jim Pettit, II
who is 100 points behind. Eric Holmes (-146), Dan Holtz (-210) and
David Gilliland (-228) round out the top five in the rankings.
