ERIC HOLMES WINS IN PHOENIX

Eric HolmesPHOENIX, AZ (October 3) -- The NASCAR Southwest Series was in competition this past Sunday with Eric Holmes capturing the flag-to-flag win in the "JC Glass 100" at Phoenix International Raceway. It was the second win of the season for last year's runner-up in points. Holmes pocketed $7,350 for the win. The series still has three races remaining on their 14-race schedule to complete the 2004 season.

Thirty cars took to the 1-mile PIR oval with Eric Holmes winning the Bud Pole Award as the event's fastest qualifier. The driver of the #62 Chevrolet circled the track in 27.656 seconds (130.171 mph). The race, which took just 53 minutes to complete, had only one caution period for a total of five laps. The lone caution flag waved early coming out on the fifth lap of the 100-lap event. 

Holmes was followed to the finish line by Craig Raudman in second. Finishing in third place was Eddy McKean followed by last year's points champion Auggie Vidovich, Jr. in fourth and current points leader Jim Pettit II in fifth. Pettit started back in 24th place en route to a top five finish.   

Hoosier's Terry Newton is the Product Manager for the NASCAR Southwest Series which used  26.5/11.0-15 "2053" left-side tires and 27.0/11.0-15 "2157" right-side tires for the 100-lap race at Phoenix.

Currently, Jim Pettit II holds a slim 10-point lead in the NASCAR Southwest Series driver standings with 1726 points over Craig Raudman who has 1716 points. Burney Lamar (1604), Eric Holmes (1515) and Eddy McKean (1496) round out the top five in the rankings. 

The next race tentatively scheduled in the NASCAR Southwest Series is this Sunday (October 10th) at Tucson Raceway Park. The race was originally scheduled for September 18th, but rains forced it to be postponed.
