IN (April 14) -- Two of the five NASCAR Touring Series that Hoosier
exclusively supplies tires for opened their seasons over the weekend.
In the NASCAR International Truck & Engine Midwest Series, Steve
Carlson won the Freund International 250 at Rockford, IL. While after
a one-week delay due to weather problems, the NASCAR Featherlite
Modified Series opened their 2003 season with Chuck Hossfeld winning
at Thompson International Speedway. Each race provided something
exciting for the fans in attendance.
NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
THOMPSON, CT (April 13) -- Chuck Hossfeld won the season opening
Icebreaker at Thompson International Speedway in the NASCAR
Featherlite Modified Series. Hossfeld now has two wins in just 21
starts in the highly competitive series. Hossfeld started fifth and
led twice during the race--the final time on lap 100 of the 150-lap
race. Hossfeld earned $4,800 for the win. The race was marred by 9
cautions periods for a total of 51 laps. John Blewett, III, Charlie
Pasteryak, Mike Stefanik and Zach Sylvester rounded out the top five.
Sylvester also won the Bud Pole Award. The next race on the schedule
is the Carquest Spring Sizzler at Stafford Motor Speedway on April
26-27 in Stafford Springs, CT.
NASCAR INTERNATIONAL TRUCK & ENGINE MIDWEST
SERIES
ROCKFORD, IL (April 13) -- After starting on the outside pole, Steve
Carlson led only one lap of the Freund International 250 at Rockford
Speedway Sunday, but it was the one that counted--the one with the
checkered flag. Carlson took the lead from Eric Fransen after Fransen
had led the entire race up to that point. Carlson earned $4,890 for
the win. Finishing in second place was Ron Breese, Jr., while Justin
Diercks rounded out the top three. Eric Fransen and Tim Schendel
completed the list of top five finishers. The race had seven cautions
for a total of 62 laps. Jon Lemke won the Bud Pole Award with a 13.457
second lap (78.026 mph) around the 1/4-mile Rockford Speedway. The
next race in the series is May 10th, at Wisconsin Dells Motor
Speedway.
