LAKEVILLE,
IN (April 30) -- It was a busy weekend in the NASCAR divisions in
which Hoosier is the exclusive provider of tires--with four of the
five divisions in action. Jim Pettit II won the Featherlite Southwest
Series race at Stockton 99 Speedway in California, while Jason
Jefferson finished ahead of his brother Jeff to capture the Tri-City
Raceway Speck & Moore Automotive Group 125 in Washington. In the
Southeast Series, Steven Howard won the season opener at South
Carolina's Greenville-Pickens Speedway. Finally, in the NASCAR
Featherlite Modified Series, Ted Christopher won the Carquest Tech-Net
Spring Sizzler.
NASCAR FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES
STOCKTON, CA (April 26) -- Jim Pettit II captured his first career
win in the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series on Saturday winning the
Budweiser 125 at Stockton 99 Speedway. After starting tenth, Petitt
moved into the lead for good on lap 93 en route to the victory. Pettit
collected $3,650. Todd Souza collected $1,600 after finishing a
career-best second. Burney Lamar rounded out the top three while
pocketing $1,300. Thirty-four cars attempted to make the 22-car field.
Auggie Vidovich Jr. currently leads the points standings followed by
Jim Pettit II. The series will take five weekends off before returning
to action on June 7th at Irwindale Speedway.
NASCAR NORTHWEST SERIES
WEST RICHLAND, WA (April 26) -- Twenty-six cars started
NASCAR Northwest Series race at Tri-City Speedway on Saturday. Many of
those that were able to finish showed the battle scars after
negotiating 125 circuits on the tight 1/2-mile tri-oval. The race
featured 12 cautions for 47 laps. At the end, it was Jason Jefferson
capturing the win ($2,500) with his brother Jeff Jefferson finishing
second ($2,250). Rounding out the top three was Jeff Bailey ($1,400).
This was the 2nd of 14 races in the series. Jason Jefferson also leads
the points battle with 345 points over Joe Benedetti with 310. The
series will next race on May 10th at Washington's Evergreen Speedway.
NASCAR SOUTHEAST SERIES
GREENVILLE, SC (April 26) -- The first race of the NASCAR
Southeast Series season was contested at Greenville-Pickens Speedway
in South Carolina this past Saturday. Steven Howard, the former 1996
track champion, took home his 4th NASCAR Southeast Series win of his
career. Thirty cars started the race with Howard starting fourth.
Howard made a last-lap pass of Jody Lavender to take the win and
collect $4,200. Lavender, who settled for second place and $2,900, was
followed by Johnny Brazier in third ($2,700). The series, which will
run 10 races this season, resumes May 15th at Myrtle Beach
Speedway.
NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
STAFFORD SPRINGS, CT (April 27) -- Ted Christopher won the 200-lap
Carquest Tech-Net Spring Sizzler in the NASCAR Featherlite Modified
Series Sunday. The Plainville, CT driver moved into the lead after
making contact with, then race-leader, Eddie Flemke with five to go.
For Christopher, it was his 5th win in the last six events at Stafford
and 12th overall in the series. Christopher won $8,400. Todd Szegedy
finished in second place earning $5,000. Tony Hirschman rounded out
the top three while collecting $4,100. Previous race winner Chuck
Hossfeld retained the points lead in the series after finishing
fourth. The series will next compete on May 10th at Waterford Speedway
in Connecticut.
