LAKEVILLE,
IN (May 19) -- While three of the five NASCAR Touring Series' that
Hoosier exclusively provides tires for were to have been in action
over the weekend, only two races were contested with rain postponing
the third. In the NASCAR International Truck and Engine Corporation
Midwest Series, Eddie Hoffman (right) led the final 45 laps en route
to winning the previously rained out Spring Sizzler 200 at Wisconsin
Dells Motor Speedway. While in the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series,
Teddy Christopher became the season's first repeat winner in the
series after winning the Service Electric 100 at Pennsylvania's
Nazareth Speedway. Finally, the NASCAR Kodak Southeast Series race at
Myrtle Beach, S.C. had to be postponed due to rain. It has been
rescheduled for July 26.
NASCAR MIDWEST SERIES
WISCONSIN DELLS, WI (May 17) -- Twenty-four cars took the green
flag Saturday for the Spring Sizzler 200 at Wisconsin Dell Motor
Speedway. Ryan Hanson won the Bud Pole Award for his lap of 13.722
seconds (86.576 mph) around the 1/3-mile oval. After the redraw,
Hanson started in eighth. On the pole was Justin Diercks with rookie
Eric Fransen alongside.
The race had seven lead changes among four drivers.
Those scored as race leaders during the event were Justin Diercks, Tim
Sauter, Brian Hoppe and Eddie Hoffman. The 200-lap race had just three
cautions for 37 laps. In the end, Eddie Hoffman and Brian Hoppe
swapped the lead back and forth three times before Hoffman emerged the
race winner. Hoffman collected $3,860 for the win, while Hoppe settled
for runner-up honors. Eric Fransen finished in third place with rookie
Jeremy Lepak and Ron Breese Jr. rounding out the top five.
Currently tied atop the Midwest Series standings is
Ron Breese Jr. and Eric Fransen with 325 points followed by Steve
Carlson, Tim Schendel and Justin Diercks.
The series will be back in action on Sunday, May 25th,
at Illinois' Grundy County Speedway.
NASCAR MODIFIED SERIES
NAZARETH, PA (May 18) -- Teddy Christopher became the NASCAR
Featherlite Modified Series' first repeat winner of the season after
capturing the Service Electric 100 at Nazareth Speedway on Sunday. The
race was the series' fourth of the season heading into this Friday's
race at Stafford Motor Speedway.
Thirty-eight cars took the green flag on the famous
1-mile track. John Blewett, III won the Bud Pole Award for being the
fastest qualifier. Blewett and Eric Beers started the race on the
front row. During the event, there were two lead changes after third
starting Ted Christopher moved into the lead on the opening lap.
Christopher led all but three laps during the 107-lap race with
Blewett leading laps 95-97. (The race was lengthened due to a late
race caution.) The race had eight cautions for 47 laps.
Christopher collected $7,900 for the win--his 13th
career victory. Blewett finished in second and pocketed $4,700. Eddie
Flemke, Neven George and Todd Szegedy rounded out the top five. Jerry
Marquis finish in sixth after starting way back in 24th.
The next event on the series schedule is May 23rd at
Connecticut's Stafford Motor Speedway.
