(Photo courtesy of www.staffordmotorspeedway.com)LAKEVILLE, IN -- Four of the five NASCAR touring divisions that Hoosier exclusively provides tires for were to have been in action over the extended holiday weekend. However, rain forced Monday's NASCAR Midwest Series race at Wisconsin International Speedway to be rescheduled to June 27, leaving three series contesting events. On Friday, Tony Hirschman led the final 14 laps en route to winning the "Haynes Materials 150" at Stafford Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series. On Saturday, both the NASCAR Northwest Series and the NASCAR Southwest Series took to the track. In the Northwest Series race at Yakima (WA) Speedway, defending series champion Jeff Jefferson captured his first win of the season, while Burney Lamar won the Southwest Series race at Irwindale (CA) Speedway and amazingly becoming that series' sixth different winner in as many events.

NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
STAFFORD SPRINGS, CT (May 28) -- Forty-three cars attempted to make the field for the Haynes Material 150, at Stafford Motor Speedway Friday. Thirty-one cars started the race. Teddy Christopher was the Bud Pole Award winner and would start second after drawing a two-car invert that put Tony Hirschman on the pole.

The race featured four lead changes among four different drivers with Teddy Christopher leading the race's first 67 laps, Todd Szegedy led the next 29 circuits, Reggie Ruggiero led laps 97-122, Teddy Christopher led again on lap 123-148, with Tony Hirschman taking the lead for good for the final 14 laps. Hirschman, a three-time NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series champion, collected $6,300 for the win--the 26th series win of his career.

Following Hirschman to the line was 14th starting, and formerly retired, Reggie Ruggiero in second place. Tommy Cravenho, Jr. rounded out the top three. Tommy Cloce and Jamie Tomaino finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The race was slowed by 11 caution flags for a total of 58 laps. The cautions also extended the race length to 162 total laps with 15 of the 31 starters finishing on the lead lap.

Eddie Flemke leads the series driver standings by 47 points over Tony Hirschman. Teddy Christopher is in third just 54 points out of first place.

The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series is back in action this weekend (June 5) at Riverhead (NY) Raceway where the series might just see its sixth different winner in as many events to start the 2004 season.

NASCAR NORTHWEST SERIES
YAKIMA, WA (May 29) -- Jeff Jefferson notched his first win of the season winning Saturday's NASCAR Northwest Series race at Yakima Speedway in that series' third event of the year. The defending series champion broke brother Jason's string of two consecutive wins to start the 2004 campaign.

With the win, Jefferson earned $2,500. Gary Lewis finished runner-up followed by Pete Harding, Garrett Evans and Wes Rhodes. Eleven of the 24 race starters finished the 125-lap race on the lead lap. Jason Jefferson, winner of the first two races in the series, finished in 22nd after suffering a clutch failure.

Garrett Evans is atop the driver standings after his third consecutive top five finish. Travis Bennett is in second place in the rankings--18 points out of first. Jason Jefferson is third--23 points behind Evans.

The NASCAR Northwest Series will take a week off before returning to action at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls Idaho on June 12.
