NASCAR REPORT:
DIERCKS, FULTZ & MARQUIS WIN

(Photo courtesy of Steve Benesh)LAKEVILLE, IN -- Three of the five NASCAR divisions Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. provides tires for were in action on Saturday with Justin, Jeff and Jerry coming away winners. Justin Diercks (photo) won the second race of the season in the NASCAR Midwest Series at Colorado National Speedway. Diercks, who started third, collected $5,710 for the win. In the NASCAR Southeast Series, after winning six of ten races last season, Jeff Fultz won his first race of the season at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. Fultz started sixth and pocketed $4,950 for the win. He is now the third different winner in the four races contested to date with Jason Hogan the only repeat winner so far this season. Saturday's race was originally scheduled for May 1, but rain forced it to be rescheduled to June 5th. In the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series, Jerry Marquis captured his second win of the season becoming that series' first repeat winner in the sixth race of the year. Marquis led all 200 laps en route to collecting the $6,200 win at Riverhead Speedway in New York.  

      

NASCAR MIDWEST SERIES

DENVER, CO (June 5) -- Thirty-one cars attempted to make Saturday's NASCAR Midwest Series "Auto Trader 150" at Colorado National Speedway with 26 drivers ultimately taking the green flag. Eddie Hoffman earned the Bud Pole Award but would start sixth after the inversion. Wisconsin's Brian Hoppe was on the pole with Coloradoan Jerry Robertson alongside. 

Brian Hoppe led the race's first 125 laps before ultimately being passed by third starting Justin Diercks. The Davenport, Iowa driver battled side-by-side with Hoppe for several laps before finally taking over the lead on lap 126 of the 150-lap event. Justin Diercks went on to win by 1.879 seconds over Brian Hoppe. The race had just two cautions flags for 15 laps.

Ryan Hansen finished in third place followed by previous race winner and defending series champion Steve Carlson in fourth and Rick Carelli in fifth. 

Steve Carlson remains atop the driver standings with 340 points followed by Brian Hoppe (335) and Justin Diercks (330). 

The NASCAR Midwest Series is back in action June 19, at Wisconsin's LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.          

      

NASCAR SOUTHEAST SERIES

Jeff Fultz in the C&C Boilers Chevrolet #54.GREENVILLE, SC (June 5) -- Originally scheduled for May 1, Saturday night's "Rock 101 150" at Greenville-Pickens Speedway was completed with no rain drops this time as Jeff Fultz came from sixth place to capture the win. Fultz was one of 24 drivers to test the historic South Carolina 1/2-mile. The Cincinnati, OH driver led all but 20 of the 150 race laps en route to the win--his first of the season after capturing an amazing six wins last year.

Following Fultz to the line was Kevin Prince, Randy Gentry, J.R. Norris and John Wilkenson III. Fultz was also the Bud Pole Award winner in the #54 C&C Boiler Chevrolet. The race was slowed by just three cautions for a total of 17 laps.

With four events in the books, (sixth place finisher) Jason Hogan is atop the driver standings with 680 points followed by Jeff Fultz with 615 points. Erik Darnell is in third place with 609 points.

The NASCAR Southeast Series will be back in action this weekend (June 11) at Nashville Superspeedway.

Both the Southeast Series and Midwest Series race's on Saturday used Hoosier's 2220 left side and Hoosier 2240 right side tires. Hoosier's Terry Newton is the Product Manager for the tires used in both events.       

      

NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES

(Photo courtesy of Howie Hodge)RIVERHEAD, NY (June 5) -- The 2004 NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series was back in action Saturday to determine whether it would be a sixth different winner in as many events in the elite open wheel modified series. When it was over, the string was broken by Jerry Marquis. The Broad Brook, CT driver also won the second race of the year at Stafford Motor Speedway. Marquis dominated the event from the outside pole leading all 200 laps en route to the win. 

Forty-seven drivers jammed the pit area at Riverhead Raceway's 1/4-mile oval with 28 making the field for the "Miller Lite 200" race. Jerry Marquis earned the Bud Pole Award and started second after the top-ten redraw. 

Marquis won the event in just over an hour pocketing $6,200 for his efforts. Finishing 2.3 seconds behind Marquis was John Blewett III after starting fifth in the field. Mike Stefanik rounded out the list of top three finishers followed by Ted Christopher and Eddie Flemke. Previous race winner Tony Hirschman finished in sixth place--one lap down. The race was slowed by seven caution flags for a total of 56 laps.

Eddie Flemke retains the series points lead with 960 points. Ted Christopher is in second place--49 points behind, while Tony Hirschman drops to third--52 points out of first. With the win, Jerry Marquis is in fourth place just 59 points behind Flemke.

All NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series events are serviced by Hoosier Tire East in Manchester, CT. Irish Saunders, Hoosier Product Manager for the series, will be attending the series' next event this Saturday, June 12, at Lake Erie Speedway.
