RIVERHEAD,
NY (June 5) -- The 2004 NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series was back in
action Saturday to determine whether it would be a sixth different
winner in as many events in the elite open wheel modified series. When
it was over, the string was broken by Jerry Marquis. The Broad Brook,
CT driver also won the second race of the year at Stafford Motor
Speedway. Marquis dominated the event from the outside pole leading
all 200 laps en route to the win.
Forty-seven drivers jammed the pit area at Riverhead
Raceway's 1/4-mile oval with 28 making the field for the "Miller
Lite 200" race. Jerry Marquis earned the Bud Pole Award and
started second after the top-ten redraw.
Marquis won the event in just over an hour pocketing
$6,200 for his efforts. Finishing 2.3 seconds behind Marquis was John
Blewett III after starting fifth in the field. Mike Stefanik rounded
out the list of top three finishers followed by Ted Christopher and
Eddie Flemke. Previous race winner Tony Hirschman finished in sixth
place--one lap down. The race was slowed by seven caution flags for a
total of 56 laps.
Eddie Flemke retains the series points lead with 960
points. Ted Christopher is in second place--49 points behind, while
Tony Hirschman drops to third--52 points out of first. With the win,
Jerry Marquis is in fourth place just 59 points behind Flemke.
