6-17-03

NASCARLAKEVILLE, IN -- Three of the five NASCAR Touring divisions which Hoosier exclusively provides tires for were in action over the weekend. In the NASCAR Southeast Series, Scott Carlson won The Kentucky 150, at Kentucky Speedway on Friday. The race was the first in the history of the track to be run without a caution period. On Saturday in both the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series and the NASCAR Northwest Series, they each enjoyed their fifth different winner in six events contested to date. First in the Featherlite Modified Series, Todd Szegedy won the Lake Erie 150, at Pennsylvania's Lake Erie Speedway after starting eighth. While in the NASCAR Northwest Series, fourth starting Gary Lewis captured the inaugural running of the Pepsi 125, at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho.

NASCAR KODAK SOUTHEAST SERIES
SPARTA, KY (June 13) -- Hoosier tires were a part of history Friday evening at Kentucky Speedway when The Kentucky 150 was contested and became the first-ever race to be run at the facility without a caution period. Scott Carlson led all but 12 laps of the race en route to collecting his first NASCAR Southeast Series win of the season. After four races, the highly competitive series has yet to see its first repeat winner of the season.

Thirty-seven cars started the 100-lap race on the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway with Scott Carlson starting from the pole. Carlson earned the Bud Pole Award honors after posting a 155.489 mph lap (34.729 seconds) in qualifying. Carlson led the race's first 78 laps, only briefly giving way to John Wilkinson III for 12 laps, before regaining the lead on lap 91. Carlson led the remainder of the way to take the win and collect $8,325. For Carlson, who generally only competes in the series on its speedway events, it was his third win in the series. Ironically, Carlson's three wins all came after winning the Bud Pole Award.

Erik Darnell finished in second place after starting 11th pocketing $5,000. Joey Miller took third followed by Charlie Bradberry and Ray Skillman to round out the top five.

The caution-free race was completed in a record time of 58 minutes 43 seconds and also established an average speed record of 153.278 mph.

Currently, Charlie Bradberry leads the NASCAR Southeast Series standings with 579 points followed closely by John Wilkinson III with 569 points. Jeff Fultz is in third with 509 points.

The next race on the series schedule is June 28th at Kentucky Motor Speedway in Whitesville, KY.

NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
NORTH EAST, PA (June 14) -- The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series made its first-ever stop at the 3/8-mile Lake Erie Speedway on Saturday when 30 cars took the green flag. Jamie Tomaino led the first seven circuits before giving way to Eric Beers. Beers savored the lead through lap 59. That's when eighth starting Todd Szegedy made his move for the lead. Once out front, Szegedy defended his leader status until the checkered flag dropped on lap 150. The win earned the Connecticut driver $7,100. Szegedy was followed by sixth starting John Blewett III in second and Eric Beers in third. Chuck Hossfeld and Rick Fuller rounded out the top five.

The race had eight cautions for a total of 55 laps. Szegedy's margin of victory was 1.4 seconds over Blewett. Szegedy now becomes the fifth different winner in six events in the series contested to date.
