IN -- It was a busy weekend in NASCAR divisions which Hoosier is the
exclusive tire provider for with four of the five divisions in action.
In the NASCAR International Truck and Engine Corporation Midwest
Series, Ron Breese, Jr. (right) won the Al Schill, Jr. Memorial 150,
Saturday at Wisconsin's Lake Geneva Raceway. It was Breese' second win
of the season. Jeff Fultz became the first repeat winner of the season
Saturday in the NASCAR Kodak Southeast Series winning the Southern
Pride 150, at Kentucky Motor Speedway. David Gilliland also became the
NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series' first repeat winner of the season
after capturing the 16th annual HPS/Victory Circle Chassis Firecracker
150, at Mesa Marin Raceway. Finally, in the NASCAR Featherlite
Modified Series, John Blewett, III captured his first win of the
season after starting 11th. Blewett won the Busch 150 at Wall Township
Speedway in New Jersey.
NASCAR INTERNATIONAL TRUCK & ENGINE CORPORATION
MIDWEST SERIES
LAKE GENEVA, WI (June28) -- Twenty-eight cars were vying for a
spot in the 24-car starting field for the Al Schill, Jr. Memorial 150,
at Lake Geneva Raceway. Nathan Haseleu won the Bud Pole Award for
posting the fastest time in qualifying. Haseleu's time was 16.314
seconds around the 1/3-mile oval.
The race began with outside pole-sitter Tim Schendel
taking the early race lead. Schendel led until lap 14, when Jamie
Wallace took over at the point. Wallace would lead for three circuits
before giving way to Ron Breese, Jr. The fifth starting Breese
commanded the remainder of the race leading the final 133-laps to take
the win and pocket $4,050 in prize money. For Breeze, it was his
second win of the season in the series.
Following Breese to the finish line was eighth
starting Eddie Hoffman in second and seventh starting Jon Lemke in
third, with Nathan Haseleu and Brian Hoppe rounding out the top five.
The race had four cautions for a total of 18 laps.
With the win, Ron Breese, Jr. extends his series lead
in the point standings to 59 over Eddie Hoffman. Steve Carlson is in
third place and remains within striking distance of first place--66
points behind Breese.
The series will be in competition this weekend, July
5, at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN.
NASCAR KODAK SOUTHEAST SERIES
WHITESVILLE, KY (June 28) -- Twenty-five cars started the 150-lap
Southern Pride 150, at Kentucky Motor Speedway's 3/8-mile track
Saturday afternoon. Randy Gentry won the Bud Pole Award as the fastest
qualifier after circling the tight oval in 15.690 seconds for an
average speed of 86.042 mph. The top six qualifiers were then inverted
for the start of the race which placed Billy McGinnis and Charlie
Bradberry on the front row.
McGinnis took command early leading the race's first
89 laps before giving way to Jeff Fultz. Fultz led the remainder of
the race to take the win and collect $4,600. With the win, Fultz
becomes the series first repeat winner of the season in five events
contested to date.
Finishing in second place was Terry Mason, Jr.
Rounding out the top five was Charlie Bradberry, Kevin Prince and
Brian Smith as 11 of the 25 starters finished the race on the lead lap.
The race had eight cautions for a total of 50 laps.
Charlie Bradberry remains atop the series standings
with 744 points followed by John Wilkinson III with 703 points and
Jeff Fultz in third with 689 points.
The series travels next to Florida's Ocala Speedway on
July 2.
NASCAR FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June28) -- Thirty-three cars attempted to gain
entry into the 30-car starting field for the 16th annual HPS/Victory
Circle Chassis Firecracker 150, at Mesa Marin Raceway on Saturday
evening. Burney Lamar won the Bud Pole Award after circling the
1/2-mile track in 18.474 seconds (97.434 mph). An eight car inversion
placed Ben Walker and Joe Herold on the front row.
The race was settled on the final circuit when, after
ten laps of trying, David Gilliland was able to get by Auggie
Vidovich, Jr. on the final turn of the final lap after the two made
contact in which Vidovich was sent spinning. Gilliland took the win
and collected the $2,500 payout. Jim Pettit II finished in second
followed by Dan Holtz, Craig Raudman and Nathan Thiesse. Vidovich
managed to cross the line in eighth after vying for the win on the
final lap.
Despite the setback, Auggie Vidovich, Jr. continues to
lead the series standings with 1072 points followed by Jim Pettit II
with 1000 points.
The series takes some time off before returning to
action on July 26th at California's Madera Speedway. Madera Speedway's
promoter is Rick Gerhardt who owns and operates Hoosier Tire West in
Fresno, CA.
NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
WALL, NJ (June29) -- Thirty cars took the green flag in the Busch
150, at Wall Township Speedway on Sunday with Chuck Hossfeld and Ken
Woolley, Jr. on the front row.
Hossfeld led the race's first two laps before giving
way to Woolley who led until lap ten, when Ted Christopher took over
at the point. Christopher led through lap 69, before 11th starting
John Blewett, III took over the lead. Blewett led the next 84 laps en
route to collecting his first win of the season. Blewett collected
$5,800 for the win.
Following Blewett to the finish line was Ken Woolley,
Jr., Ted Christopher, Jimmy Blewett and Jamie Tomaino. The race had
six cautions for a total of 39 laps. Eric Beers was the Bud Pole Award
winner.
With the win, John Blewett, III moves into first place
in the standings with 1116 points over Todd Szegedy who has 1081
points. Ted Christopher (1022), Jerry Marquis (1004) and Chuck
Hossfeld (974) round out the top five in the standings.
The series takes a week off before returning to action
on July 12th at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME.
