LAKEVILLE,
IN --Three of the five NASCAR divisions which employ a Hoosier
tire-rule were in action this past week with all three events ending
with a past winner in victory lane. In the NASCAR Southeast Series,
Jeff Fultz captured his third win of the season at Georgia's Lanier
National Speedway on Friday. Fultz, earning nearly $35,000 this
season, has now won three of that series' last four events. On
Saturday, Jeff Jefferson won his second of six races contested to date
in the NASCAR Northwest Series. Jefferson, the defending series
champion, won at Washington's Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval and now
climbs to fourth in the driver rankings with the win. On Sunday,
Justin Diercks (photo) captured his third win of the season in the
NASCAR Midwest Series race at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, MN.
Defending series champion Steve Carlson, the Midwest Series only other
race winner with two wins, finished in third place. The finish gives a
slim five point lead to Diercks in the driver rankings over the
defending series champion. Diercks has now earned just over $18,000 in
the NASCAR Midwest Series which now has eight races remaining on its
2004 schedule.
NASCAR SOUTHEAST SERIES
BRASELTON, GA (July 3) -- Rain forced Thursday's Firecracker 150, at
Lanier National Speedway to be rescheduled to Friday. It was the
seventh race of the season of the NASCAR Southeast Series schedule
with 20 cars taking the green flag Friday night. Cincinnati's Jeff
Fultz took the lead from the outside pole and led flag-to-flag for his
third win of the season.
Fultz earned $4,622 during the night bringing his
season total to $34,115. Fultz was followed to the line by Donald Long
from Pensacola, FL. Justin Wakefield finished in third place after
starting back in 22nd position. J.R. Norris was fourth and Greg Pope
fifth.
Jeff Fultz remains atop the NASCAR Southeast Series
standings with 1121 points followed by rookie J.R. Norris with 1084
points. Erik Darnell, Jason Hogan and rookie Chris Davidson round out
the top five.
The NASCAR Southeast Series is back in action on July
7th, at Caraway Speedway in Ashboro, NC.
NASCAR NORTHWEST SERIES
WENATCHEE, WA (July 3) -- Defending NASCAR
Northwest Series champion Jeff Jefferson won his second race of the
season when he captured the KKRV 125, at Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval
on Saturday. Just like Fultz in the Southeast Series, it was a
wire-to-wire win for the race winner. Jefferson, part of a 20-car
field, started on the pole after an 8-car invert. Jefferson earned
$2,300 for the win.
Jefferson was followed to the line by
Gary Lewis, Garrett Evans, Brandon Riehl and Travis Bennett. Riehl was
the event's Bud Pole Award winner. It was the first of his career.
With his third place finish East
Wenatchee, Washington's Garrett Evans retains the top spot in the
driver rankings 43 points ahead of Travis Bennett and 87 points ahead
of Gary Lewis. Jeff Jefferson is in fourth place 100 points behind the
leader.
With five races remaining on the 2004
schedule, the NASCAR Northwest Series next competes at Yakima Speedway
on July 24th for another 125-lap race.
NASCAR MIDWEST SERIES
SAUK CENTRE, MN (July 4) -- Justin Diercks
and Steve Carlson continued their season-long battle for supremacy
atop the NASCAR Midwest Series driver standings with Diercks capturing
his third win of the season. The Davenport, IA driver took the race
lead from Carlson on lap 15 en route to winning the 150-lap race after
starting sixth.
With a career-best finish Erik Darnell
took second place after starting 11th in the 21-car field. Steve
Carlson finished in third place followed by Eddie Hoffman and Joey
Miller.
In the five races contested to date,
Diercks has three wins and Carlson has the other two as the pair are
battling it out for the top spot in the driver rankings with Diercks
(860) currently holding a five point margin over the defending series
champion. Tim Schendel is third in the standings with 769 points.
Brian Hoppe and Eddie Hoffman round out the top five in the rankings.
With eight races remaining on their
schedule, the NASCAR Midwest Series will be back in action July 18th,
at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in Mansfield, OH.
All three series used Hoosier's 2220
left side and 2400 right side bias-ply racing tires. Terry Newton is
