ASHBORO,
NC (July 7) -- Just one of the five NASCAR regional racing series was
in action this past week. In the NASCAR Southeast Series, Erik Darnell
captured his first-ever win in NASCAR competition this past Wednesday
night winning the AutoZone 150, at Caraway Speedway. Darnell took over
the lead when then race leader Kevin Prince slowed momentarily when
another race car spewed out a cloud of smoke. But when the caution
flag didn't appear, Darnell was able to motor past Prince and capture
the win late in the race.
Following Darnell to the line was Kevin Prince, Wayne
Anderson, J.R. Norris and previous race winner Jeff Fultz. The 150-lap
race had 22 starters and was slowed by eight cautions for a total of
37 laps.
With his fifth place finish, Jeff Fultz retains the
lead in the driver standings with 1276 points. With seven top ten
finishes, Fultz has earned just over $34,000 this year in the eight
races contested to date. The Mooresville, NC driver is followed by J.R.
Norris with 1244 points and Erik Darnell with 1242 points. Jason Hogan
and Kevin Prince round out the top five in the rankings.
All of Wednesday night's competitors rode on Hoosier
27.0/11.0-15 "2240" right side and 26.5/11.0-15
"2220" left side tires. Terry Newton is Hoosier's Product
Manager for four of the five NASCAR regional series' that Hoosier exclusively
provides tires for--including the NASCAR Southeast
Series.
Only four events remain on the 2004 NASCAR Southeast
Series schedule with a stop at Myrtle Beach Speedway this Saturday,
