LAKEVILLE,
IN -- Saturday was a busy day in the NASCAR Series with three of the
five NASCAR divisions that Hoosier exclusively provides tires for in
action. In the NASCAR Raybestos Brakes Northwest Series, Chris Hart
led the final 33 laps of the Parts Plus 125, at Evergreen Speedway in
Monroe, WA en route to his second consecutive win of the season. In
the Kodak Southeast Series, Shane Sieg captured his first career win.
The win came at Alabama's Huntsville Speedway in the Thunder By The
River 150. Todd Szegedy (right) also collected his second NASCAR win
of the season. His victory came in the New England Dodge Dealers 150,
at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Featherlite Modified
Series.
NASCAR RAYBESTOS BRAKES NORTHWEST SERIES
MONROE, WA (July12) -- Thirty-two cars took the green flag in
Saturday's Parts Plus 150, with Brandon Riehl on the pole. Rookie
Jason Jefferson won the Bud Pole Award (his second of the season) with
his 101.316 mph lap (22.954 seconds) on the 5/8-mile oval, but started
sixth after the inversion.
After three different race leaders which included
Brandon Riehl (1-22), Kevin Hamlin (23-75) and Jason Jefferson
(76-93), Chris Hart took command on lap 94, before taking the
checkered flag 33 laps later for his second win of the season. Hart
also won last Saturday's race at Wenatchee, WA. Jason Jefferson
finished in second followed by Kevin Hamlin who started and finished
in third place.
Gary Lewis was fourth with pole-sitter Brandon Riehl
rounding out the top five. The race finished with 12 of the 32
starters on the lead lap. The race had seven cautions for a total of
26 laps.
Chris Hart (1288) extends his lead in the NASCAR
Northwest Series standings over Jason Jefferson (1216) to 72 points.
With the win, Hart has collected just over $13,000 in winnings this
season. Jeff Jefferson is in third with 1213 points followed by Gary
Lewis and John Bender. All five drivers have won at least once this
season.
The next race on the NASCAR Northwest Series schedule
is this Saturday (July 19) at Yakima Speedway.
NASCAR KODAK SOUTHEAST SERIES
HUNTSVILLE, AL (July 12) -- Shane Sieg topped a field of 21 cars
to capture his first career win in the NASCAR Southeast Series at
Huntsville Speedway on Saturday. Sieg took the lead on lap 130 in the
Thunder By The Bay 150, en route to the milestone win.
Sieg, who collected $4,210 for the win, was followed
by Jarod Robie, Terry Mason, Jr., Jason Hogan and John Wilkinson, III
in third through fifth, respectively. Current series points leader
Charlie Bradberry finished sixth with 12 of the 21 starters finishing
the race on the lead lap.
Charlie Bradberry currently leads the driver standings
with 1054 points followed by Terry Mason, Jr. (974), Jeff Fultz (972),
John Wilkinson, III (967), Jason Hogan (952) rounding out the top five
as the series enters its final three races.
The series has contested seven races to date with just
one repeat winner (Jeff Fultz-3). Both Charlie Bradberry and Jeff
Fultz have earned over $20,000 in prize money this season in the
NASCAR Kodak Southeast Series.
The series will next race July 26th at Myrtle Beach
Speedway after rain postponed it from its originally scheduled May
16th date.
NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
SCARBOROUGH, ME (July 12) -- Todd Szegedy led all 150 laps in
picking up his second win of the season in the NASCAR Featherlite
Modified Series. Szegedy earned $5,800 in winning the New England
Dodge Dealers 150, at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.
Fifth starting Tony Hirschman finished in second place
followed by ninth starting Chuck Hossfeld in third. Rick Fuller and
John Blewett, III rounded out the top five as 12 of the 30 race
starters finished the race on the lead lap. Eric Beers also won his
second consecutive Bud Pole Award for posting the fastest lap in
qualifying.
John Blewett, III (1271) continues to hold a narrow
10-point lead over Todd Szegedy (1261) in the series standings. Ted
Christopher is in third with 1172 points followed by Chuck Hossfeld
(1139) and Jerry Marquis (1101).
The next race on the NASCAR Featherlite Modified
Series schedule is this Friday (July 18) at Loudon, NH. Hoosier Open
Wheel Asphalt Product Manager Irish Saunders will be attending the
weekend event to monitor tire performance and answer any questions the
teams may have.
