LOUDON, NH (July 2) -- It was a big weekend
at New Hampshire International Speedway over the weekend with the
NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series in action on Saturday and Sunday
with the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series kicking things off with
the "Siemens 100" race on Friday.
A total of 47 open wheel modified
drivers attempted to make the 42-car field with Ted Christopher
capturing the Bud Pole Award as the event's fastest qualifier. The
exciting race featured 12 race leaders among six different drivers
including; Ted Christopher (1-17), Ken Barry (18-19), Christopher
(20-24), John Blewett III (25), Christopher (26-35), Donny Lia (36),
Christopher (37-39), Lia (40-50), Todd Szegedy (51), Lia (52-57),
Szegedy (58-63), Mike Christopher (64-65), Christopher
(66-108).
Fourteen of the 42 starters finished
the race on the lead lap. It was Ted Christopher's second win of the
season and was worth $14,700. Christopher also won this year's season
opening race at Thompson International Speedway after defending series
champion Todd Szegedy was disqualified for a rear end gear infraction.
Christopher was followed to the line by
his twin brother, Mike, who started 17th. The runner up finish was
worth a tidy $10,500. Crossing the line in third behind the
Christopher twins was 20th starting Mike Stefanik. Tony Hirschman and
Donny Lia rounded out the top five with 14 of the 42 starters
finishing on the lead lap.
The top five in the driver rankings
remains the same with Eddie Flemke (who finished seventh) in first
place followed by Tony Hirschman who is 44 points out of the top spot.
Jerry Marquis, Ted Christopher and Rick Fuller round out the top five.

Featherlite Modified Series is this Saturday, July 31st, at Seekonk
Speedway in Massachusetts.
NASCAR MIDWEST SERIES
LAKE GENEVA, WI (July 24) -- Justin Diercks won for
the fifth time in seven races in the NASCAR Midwest Series over the
weekend capturing the "Al Schill, Jr. Memorial 150" at
Wisconsin's Lake Geneva Raceway. The rising star took the lead on lap
50 of the 150-lap event on his way to collecting $4,075 for the win
and bringing his season total to just over $18,000.
Twenty-two cars started the race with
10 drivers finishing on the lead lap on the 3/8-mile oval. Steve
Carlson captured the Bud Pole Award as the fastest qualifier but
started 8th after the inversion. Randy Rodgers led the first lap with
Erik Darnell leading the next 48 laps before Diercks took command
after starting sixth in the field.
Following Diercks to the line was defending series
champion Steve Carlson who finished .929 seconds behind the race
winner. Brian Hoppe finished in third place followed by Tim Schendel
and Erik Darnell. The race was slowed five times for cautions for a
total of 24 laps.
Despite his five wins, Diercks still is just 20 points
ahead of Steve Carlson in the driver rankings. Tim Schendel (-101) is
in third followed by Brian Hoppe (-114) and Eddie Hoffman (-173).
The NASCAR Midwest Series is back on the track this
Saturday, July 31st, at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado.
