HOLMES, CARLSON & SZEGEDY WINNERS

(Photo courtesy of Steve Benesh)LAKEVILLE, IN -- Four of the five NASCAR divisions Hoosier exclusively provides tires for were to be in action over the weekend, but rain again forced the postponement of the Kodak Southeast Series race at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Saturday leaving just three series in action. NASCAR hopes a third times a charm when they will attempt to run the Myrtle Beach race on August 26th. In the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series, Eric Holmes captured his first win of the season winning the Lucas Oil 125, at Madera Speedway who's track promoter is Hoosier Tire West's owner Rick Gerhardt. With the win, Holmes becomes the seventh different winner in the eight races contested to date in the series this season. In the NASCAR International Truck and Engine Corporation Midwest Series, Steve Carlson (right) won the rain shortened "The Wright Group Event Services 150" on Saturday at Pikes Peak International Raceway. It was Carlson's second win of the season in the series. In the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series, Todd Szegedy became the first three-time winner of the season after capturing the victory in Saturday's Inaugural Farmers Pride 150, at New York's Adirondack International Speedway. Hoosier wishes to congratulate Eric, Steve and Todd as the latest NASCAR winners using Hoosier tires.

NASCAR FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES
MADERA, CA (July 26) -- Twenty-nine cars were entered in the Lucas Oil 150, at Madera Speedway in California with 22 cars taking the green flag. Craig Raudman set the fastest time in qualifying with a 14.611 second (82.048 mph) lap on the 1/3-mile track. Raudman now has 20 career Bud Pole Awards and is second behind M.K. Kanke who has 27 career BPA's. The top six qualifiers were inverted placing Jim Pettit, II on the pole with Eric Holmes alongside.

Eric Holmes took the lead from the outset and would lead twice for 83 laps en route to winning the race and collecting $2,900. Jim Pettit, II finished in second place and pocketed $2,000. Craig Raudman rounded out the top three followed by Auggie Vidovich, Jr. and Steve Belletto in fourth and fifth, respectively. Ten of the 22 race starters finished the 125-lap race on the lead lap.

The series has now had seven different winners in eight events contested to date. The only repeat winner is David Gilliland who finished 21st in the race at Madera Speedway.

Auggie Vidovich, Jr. currently is at the top of the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series standings with 1232 points followed by Jim Pettit, II with 1170 points. Eric Holmes (1129), Craig Raudman (1038), and Dan Holtz (1032) round out the top five in the rankings.

Six races remain on the 2003 schedule with the next being at Colorado National Speedway on August 16th.

NASCAR INTERNATIONAL TRUCK AND ENGINE CORPORATION MIDWEST SERIES
FOUNTAIN, CO (July 26) -- Forty cars took the green flag Saturday at Pikes Peak International Raceway for The Wright Group Event Services 150. Joey Miller won the Bud Pole Award for the fastest lap in qualifying when he circled the 1-mile track in 27.797 seconds for an average speed of 129.510 mph.

The race featured five lead changes among four drivers. Drivers leading during the race were; Joey Miller (1-20), Rick Carelli (21-26), Ray Skillman (71-72), and Steve Carlson (27-36, 73-120). The 150-lap race was shortened by 30 laps due to rain with Steve Carlson out front when the rain came down. Carlson started twelfth en route to his second win of the season in the series. The West Salem, WI driver collected $10,350 for the win.

Following Carlson to the finish line was tenth starting Jon Lemke who earned $7,800 for his runner-up finish. Justin Diercks rounded out the top three, while earning $6,700. Rick Carelli and Eddie Hoffman rounded out the top five.

Eddie Hoffman leads the series standings with just three races remaining in the season. Hoffman (1456) leads by just eight points over Steve Carlson (1448) followed by Ron Breese, Jr. (1372), Jon Lemke (1338), and Brian Hoppe (1325).

The NASCAR Midwest Series will be in action next at Wisconsin International Raceway on August 5th.

NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
BEAVER FALLS, NY (July 26) -- Thirty-two cars started Saturday's Inaugural Farmers Pride 150, at Adirondack International Speedway in New York with Chuck Hossfeld earning the Bud Pole Award. After the redraw, Tony Hirschman and Nevin George found themselves in the front row.

The race was originally led by Hirschman who led the race's first 97 laps before giving way to previous race winner Chuck Hossfeld. Hossfeld led until lap 123, before 17th starting Todd Szegedy moved into the lead for good. Szegedy led until the checkered flag fell on lap 150. With the win, Szegedy becomes the series first 3-time winner this season. Szegedy collected $6,000 for the win.

Eddie Flemke finished in second place after starting 14th. Flemke pocketed $4,000 for the runner-up finish. Sixteenth starting Jan Leaty rounded out the top three, while collecting $2,500 for the final podium spot. Chuck Hossfeld and Teddy Christopher finished in fourth and fifth, respectively. The race also had nine cautions for a total of 53 laps.

With the win, Szegedy extends his lead in the point standings over John Blewett, III who finished 25th on Saturday. Szegedy has 1611 points, while Blewett has 1524 points. Chuck Hossfeld (1479), Ted Christopher (1469), and Jerry Marquis (1382) round out the top five in the standings.

The next Featherlite Modified Series races this Saturday, August 2, at Riverhead Raceway in Riverhead, NY.
