RIVERHEAD,
NY (August 2) -- Just one of the five NASCAR divisions that Hoosier
exclusively provides tires for was in action over the weekend--the
NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series. Donny Lia dominated the Miller
Lite 200, at New York's Riverhead Raceway where the locals proved a formidable
bunch for the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series regulars. Lia led 196
of the race's 200 laps en route to the win. The Merrick, NY driver
pocketed $5,700 for his efforts after starting from the pole.
Twenty-eight cars took the green flag Saturday for the
Miller Lite 200. Chuck Steuer, from Bohemia, NY, won the Bud Pole
Award as the fastest qualifier. The top eight qualifiers then drew for
their starting spots with Donny Lia drawing the pole and Steuer
drawing the seventh starting spot.
Donny Lia dominated the race leading all but four race
laps. The only other race leader was Medford, NY's Frank Vigliarolo
leading laps 43 through 46. But it was Lia's day picking up his first
career win in the series after 19 starts.
Lia was followed by sixth starting Teddy
Christopher--2.18 seconds behind the race winner. Christopher collected
$4,200 for his runner-up finish. Bay Shore, NY's Howie Brode finished
in third after starting eighth. Brode brought home $2,900 for the
final podium spot.
Frank Vigliarolo finished in fourth followed by 26th
starting Jamie Tomaino in fifth. Twenty-fifth starting Chuck Hossfeld
was the final lead-lap finisher in sixth place. The race had six
cautions for a total of 61 laps which slowed the average race speed to
just 36.526 mph.
Todd Szegedy continues to lead in the NASCAR
Featherlite Modified Series with 1729 points despite a 15th place
finish. John Blewett, III is in second place with 1666 points followed
closely by Teddy Christopher (1639) and Chuck Hossfeld (1629).
The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series will be back in
action this Friday, August 8, at Connecticut's Stafford Motor
Speedway.
