LAKEVILLE,
IN -- For the second consecutive week, four of the five NASCAR
regional racing series that Hoosier exclusively provides tires for
were to have been in action. However, rain forced Wednesday's NASCAR
Featherlite Modified Series race at Stafford Motor Speedway to be
postponed until August 25th leaving three Late Model Asphalt series in
action. Justin Diercks (photo) won his sixth race of the season, while
Jeff Fultz won his fifth race and Jeff Jefferson won his third event of the
year.
In the NASCAR Midwest Series, Justin Diercks
continued his winning ways capturing his sixth victory of the year in
the 10 races contested to date. The young hot shoe won Saturday's
Columbus 150, at Columbus Motor Speedway after starting sixth. Diercks
took the lead from Tim Schendel with just five laps to go en route to
the win. The Davenport, IA driver earned $3,990 for his effort
bringing his season leading total to $37,540. Diercks also extended
his lead in the driver standings over Steve Carlson to 45 points. Tim
Schendel finished second followed by 13th starting Eddie Hoffman.
Steve Carlson finished fourth while bringing his season's earnings to
a hefty $36,945. Just three races remain on the 2004 schedule
for the NASCAR Midwest Series.
In the NASCAR Southeast Series, Jeff Fultz
became that series' winningest driver eclipsing Wayne Anderson. Prior
to Saturday's race, each driver had 21 wins. Fultz, however, took over
the top spot after winning the AutoZone 150, at Greenville-Pickens
Speedway after starting eighth. It was Fultz's fifth win of the season and was worth $4,950
to the driver of the C&C Boiler Chevrolet. Following Fultz to the finish line was Kevin Prince in
second and
Erik Darnell in third. The win brings the point leader's season
winnings to $38,350. With just two races remaining on this
year's schedule, Jeff Fultz stands atop the driver rankings with 1641
points followed by J.R. Norris (1584) and Erik Darnell (1572).
In the NASCAR Northwest Series, Jeff Jefferson
won his third race of the season tying his brother Jason as the series
win leader. Jeff won Saturday's Frank's Chevrolet 125, at Yakima
Speedway where he notched one of his earlier season wins. The Naches, WA
native won the Bud Pole as the fastest qualifier but started 8th after
drawing an eight-car invert. Jeff collected $3,600 for the win
bringing his series leading total to $16,720 in the nine races
contested to date. Brandon Riehl finished in second place followed by
Gary Lewis, Jason Jefferson and Joe Benedetti. The NASCAR Northwest
Series has just three races remaining on its 2004 schedule. Garrett
Evans, who finished ninth in Saturday's race, leads the driver
rankings with 1420 points followed by Jason Jefferson (1372), Travis
Bennett (1371) and Jeff Jefferson (1337).
