WEEKEND NASCAR REPORT

8-20-2002

NASCAR Touring DivisionsLAKEVILLE, IN (August 20) -- Two of the four NASCAR Touring divisions that Hoosier exclusively provides tires for were to be in action over the weekend. But Mother Nature had different plans. The NASCAR All Pro Series was to have competed at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, SC on Saturday, but rain caused the event to be postponed until September 21. The series will be back in action however, this Wednesday at Bristol Motor Speedway. That left just one NASCAR division competing--the NASCAR Winston West Series. Johnny Borneman captured the win on the tight 1/4-mile Stockton 99 Speedway in Stockton, CA.

STOCKTON, CA (August 17) -- Johnny Borneman led all 202 laps of the Stockton Speedway Dodge Country NAPA Auto Parts 200 by JaniKing and ProLong. Borneman started on the outside pole and immediately jumped into the lead which he never relinquished throughout the race.

The wire-to-wire win was the first in the series since 1997. The victory was Borneman's first of the season and second of the 25-year-old's career. The victory was worth $12,585.

Following Borneman to the finish line was Mike Duncan who collected $5,395 for the runner-up finish. Rounding out the top three was Mike David. David pocketed $4,883.

Nine of the 18 race starters finished the event on the lead lap. Completing the list of lead-lap finishers were: Eric Norris (4th); Kevin Richards (5th); Gene Woods (6th); Greg Pursley (7th); Brett Thompson (8th); and Brandon Ash (9th).

Eric Norris increased his points lead over Austin Cameron who finished a disappointing 12th. Norris leads the NASCAR Winston West Series standings with 1169 points. Mike Duncan (1045) and Mike David (1024) are fourth and fifth, respectively.

The NASCAR Winston West Series will be back in action on August 31, at Utah's Rocky Mountain Raceway.
