WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH (August 31) -- Twenty-one cars
started the 250-lap Young Automotive Group 250 at Rocky Mountain
Raceways Saturday. Scott Gaylord started on the pole after winning the
Bud Pole Award for his qualifying mark of 85.077 mph around the
.375-mile oval with Kevin Richards alongside.
Gaylord jumped out to the early race lead and led
until lap 226, when 17th starting Austin Cameron moved into the lead.
Cameron then held off the late race challenges of Richards and Gaylord
to take the 250-lap win. The victory was the fourth in eight events
this season for Cameron and moved the NAPA Chevrolet driver to within
46 points of current series leader Eric Norris with just two events
remaining on the schedule.
Cameron earned a whopping $16,117 for the win. Kevin
Richards pocketed a cool $9,177 for finishing in second. Scott Gaylord
rounded out the top three while collecting $8,242. A total of eight
drivers finished the race on the lead lap. Scott Lynch, Mark Reed,
Mike David, Eric Norris, and Johnny Borneman finished fourth through
eighth, respectively.
Eric Norris continues to lead the series standings
with 1325 points followed by Cameron with 1279. Kevin Richards is just
eight points out of second, while Mike Davis and Johnny Borneman
reside in fourth and fifth, respectively.
The NASCAR Winston West Series resumes racing on
September 21, at Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, OR.
