IN -- While four of the five NASCAR divisions that Hoosier exclusively
provides tires for were to have been in action over the weekend, only
three races were contested with the fourth event being cancelled due
to rain. In the NASCAR International Truck & Engine Midwest
Series, the 300-lap race at Wisconsin Dells Motor Speedway on Sunday
was cancelled due to rain. On Friday night in the NASCAR Featherlite
Modified Series, John Blewett, III (photo) led six times for 82 laps
en route to winning the "New Hampshire 100" at Loudon, NH.
In the NASCAR Raybestos Northwest Series, Jeff Jefferson won his third
race in a row and fourth overall this season wining the "NAPA
150" at Idaho's Magic Valley Speedway. The win propelled
Jefferson into the lead in the series standings by 12 points over
Chris Hart with just one event left on the schedule. Also with just
one race remaining on their 2003 10-race schedule, the NASCAR Kodak
Southeast Series competed at Kentucky Motor Speedway on Saturday with
Jeff Fultz winning his fifth race of the season.
NASCAR TRUCK & ENGINE MIDWEST SERIES
WISCONSIN DELLS, WI (September 14) -- Rain forced the cancellation
of the 300-lap race at Wisconsin Dells Motor Speedway on Sunday. The
series will complete its 2003 schedule on Sunday, October 5, at West
Salem, WI at the LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway. Steve Carlson leads
the driver standings by 34 points over Eddie Hoffman. Both drivers
have three wins apiece this year with Carlson winning the last two
races in the series. Ron Breese Jr. is in third place in the
rankings--101 points out of first.
NASCAR FEATHERLITE MODIFIED SERIES
LOUDON, NH (September 12) -- Thirty-nine cars started the
"New Hampshire 100" at New Hampshire International Speedway
on Friday evening. The race featured an amazing 12 lead changes among
four different drivers before it was all over. Tony Hirschman won the
Bud Pole Award as the fastest qualifier and started the race on the
front row with John Blewett, III.
After Tony Hirschman and Mike Stefanik each led four
laps, John Blewett, III took one of his six turns out front. The
Howell, NJ driver led a total of 82 laps of the 100-lap race. Drivers
to lead during the race were Tony Hirschman (three times for six
laps), Mike Stefanik (three times for 11 laps), and Teddy Christopher
(once for one lap). The race had just four caution periods for 17
laps.
Blewett won $13,500 as the top finisher, while 14th
starting Teddy Christopher finished in second place--1.447 seconds
behind Blewett. Christopher pocketed $10,500 for the runner-up spot.
Ken Woolley took the final podium spot and collected $7,800 as 24 of
the 39 race starters finished the race on the lead-lap.
Mike Stefanik finished fourth, followed by Chuck
Hossfeld and last week's winner Tony Hirschman. Todd Szegedy, Jan
Leaty, Jerry Marquis and Fred Vordermeier in seventh through tenth,
respectively.
With three races remaining on the 2003 schedule, Todd
Szegedy continues to lead the driver rankings by 84 points over John
Blewett, III. Szegedy has four wins this season in the 16 races
contested to date. Chuck Hossfeld is in third place in the standings
only 89 markers out of first.
The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series will be back in
action September 28, at Stafford Motor Speedway where Todd Szegedy won
approximately a month ago.
NASCAR RAYBESTOS NORTHWEST SERIES
TWIN FALLS, IDAHO (September 13) -- Twenty-four cars started the
"NAPA 150" at Magic Valley Speedway on Saturday night. When
it was over, Jeff Jefferson had won his third race in a row and fourth
overall this season in the NASCAR Raybestos Northwest Series.
Jefferson was followed to the finish line by his
younger brother Jason in second and John Bender in third. Joe
Benedetti and Steven Howard rounded out the top five as 13 of the 24
starters finished the race on the lead-lap. Jeff Jefferson earned
$3,835 for the win.
It all comes down to the final race of the season to
determine a series champion. Jeff Jefferson leads the standings by 12
points over Chris Hart and 30 points over younger brother Jason
heading into the final race of the season September 27, at Wenatchee
Valley's Super Oval. The series has contested two races at Wenatchee
this season with Jeff Jefferson winning the May race and Chris Hart
winning the race in July. So, it should be an exciting finish to
another NASCAR Raybestos Northwest Series season.
NASCAR KODAK SOUTHEAST SERIES
WHITESVILLE, KY (September 13) -- Jeff Fultz came from ninth to win
the "Kentucky 150" over 18 other drivers. It was his fifth
win of the season with no other driver having more than one win in the
series.
The race featured three lead changes among four
drivers. A.J. Frank led the first 36 laps, before giving way to John
Wilkinson, III who led the most laps (99). Wilkinson's lead ended on
lap 136, when Jason Hogan took a turn out front leading through lap
141. That's when Jeff Fultz took over at the point leading until the
checkered flag dropped on lap 153.
Fultz earned $5,385 for the win, while Jason Hogan
picked up $2,835 for the runner-up spot. Charlie Bradberry, Terry
Mason Jr. and Dusty Williams rounded out the top five. The race had 13
of the 19 starters finish on the lead-lap.
Despite being the only multi-race winner this season
with five wins, Fultz still finds himself in second place in the
driver rankings--37 points out of first. Charlie Bradberry leads the
standings with 1369 points. Jason Hogan is in third place in the
standings--82 points behind Bradberry.
The NASCAR Kodak Southeast Series season will come to
a close this Saturday, September 20, at Greenville-Pickens Speedway
for a rescheduled race that was to have been completed August 9th, but
rain forced it to be moved to the end of the season.
