RIVERHEAD,
NY (June 8) -- Ted Christopher won the Miller Lite 200 at Riverhead
Raceway Saturday night becoming the first repeat winner of the season
in NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series action. Christopher started the
race on the pole and led 77 laps in capturing the win. The Plainville,
Connecticut driver pocketed $7,550 for the victory.
A total of 44 cars posted times in qualifying. JR
Berticcio won the Bud Pole Award after circling the tight 1/4-mile
oval in 11.903 seconds. The top six times were inverted for the
starting line-up. Ted Christopher drew the pole with defending series
champion Mike Stefanik alongside.
Twenty-eight cars started the event that had
Christopher jumping out to the early race lead. On lap 52, Christopher
turned over the lead to 5th starting Rick Fuller. Fuller looked to be
in control of the race when on lap 179 he was involved in an incident
with the 2nd place car of J.R. Berticcio. Berticcio was able to
continue but Fuller's night was over. The melee turned the race lead
back over to Ted Christopher who led the remainder of the way to
capture the win by .38 seconds over 12th starting Jerry Marquis.
John Blewett, Chuck Hossfeld, Dave Berghman, Fred
Vordermeier, Jamie Tomaino, Bill Park and Eric Beers rounded out
positions three through nine completing the list of lead-lap
finishers.
Mike Stefanik holds a slim four point margin in the
NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series standings with 734 points over
Jerry Marquis. Robby Summers is in third place with 705 markers. He
too is followed closely by Dave Berghman (704) and Todd Szegedy (701).
The series will resume action on June 22, at Seekonk
Speedway in Massachusetts.
