STAFFORD
SPRINGS, CT (July 3) -- Ted Christopher felt he could go the entire
150-lap distance on one set of Hoosiers in the Connecticut Classic 150
at Stafford Motor Speedway last Wednesday. His feeling became a
reality when he picked up his third consecutive NASCAR Featherlite
Modified Series win at the 1/2-mile speedway and his ninth career
victory overall. Christopher led all 150 laps in picking up his third
win of the season after electing not to pit during the entire event.
Christopher commented after the victory, "We got such great wear
at the Sizzler we thought we'd see how the race went tonight. My crew
gave me a great car and we never needed to stop." The race was
postponed first from May 24th and then on May 31st due to rain before
Wednesday's race was finally completed.
Forty-four cars were entered in qualifying with Nevin
George winning the Bud Pole Award after averaging 97.986 mph around
the 1/2-mile track. Qualifying actually took place back in May when
the race was originally scheduled. The top six drivers then drew for
starting positions. Christopher drew the pole with George drawing the
third starting position.
Thirty cars started the race. Despite ten cautions
periods, Ted Christopher elected to go the distance on just one set of
Hoosiers. His trust in the durability and longevity of the Hoosiers
was rewarded with the win and $8,700 in prizes and awards after
leading all 150 laps of the event. Finishing in second place was Eddie
Flemke after starting 13th. Rick Fuller rounded out the top three with
Jerry Marquis and Chris Kopec rounding out the top five, respectively.
Fourteen of the 30 starters finished the race on the lead lap.
Jerry Marquis is in first place in the season long
point standings with 1200 points, closely followed by defending series
champion Mike Stefanik with 1180 points.
