RIVERHEAD,
NY (August 3) -- Connecticut's Ed Flemke had a day most drivers can
only dream about. Flemke won the Bud Pole Award for being the fastest
qualifier and then drew the number one starting position for the
Riverhead 200 at Riverhead Speedway on Saturday. He went on to lead
all 200 laps from the pole en route to picking up his second NFMS win
of the season. Flemke, driving a Pontiac, earned $8,650 for the win.
The win was Flemke's 13th of his career in the series.
Twenty-eight cars took the green flag Saturday
afternoon on the 1/4-mile Riverhead bull-ring.
Despite nine cautions for 53 laps, Flemke maintained
the race lead throughout to take the win and pocket the $8,650 top
prize. Finishing in second place, 1.1 seconds behind Flemke, was
seventh starting John Fortin. Fortin collected $3,405 for his
runner-up finish. Eddie Brunnhoezl wound up third, while pocketing
$2,470.
Twelve of the 28 starters finished the race on the
lead lap. Rounding out fourth through 12th were: Ted Christopher,
Chuck Hossfeld, Robbie Summers, Todd Szegedy, Jamie Tomaino, Bill
Park, Howie Brode, Chris Kopec and Greg Shivers.
After his seventh place finish, rookie Todd Szegedy
moved into the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series point lead with 1596
points over Jerry Marquis who has 1596 points. Mike Stefanik (1558) is
in third, while Rick Fuller and Eddie Flemke are tied for fourth with
1523 points each.
The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series will resume
action on August 15th at Thompson International Speedway.
