CHANDLER,
AZ (March 5-7) -- After a bad luck riddled season-opening event in Pomona
(CA), Team-Hoosier came back with something to prove in the 20th
annual Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals at Firebird
International Raceway. The Hoosier brand captured four of the eight
classes contested. Not bad considering Hoosier tires are not even
allowed in two of the eight competing classes! Five drivers made it to
their respective class finals with four of them coming away winners.
David Rampy represented Hoosier in the Comp Eliminator final. Rampy is
shown (at right) recently testing for Hoosier in January at Bradenton
(FL). For the second event in a row, Toby Lang was in the Stock
final riding on Hoosier tires. In Super Gas, Rod Fuller made it to the
final round and in the Super Street class, it was an all-Hoosier final
when Ray Carlson met Richard Tucker in the final race.
COMP ELIMINATOR
After testing for Hoosier in January, David Rampy was
able to put it all together in winning his first National event
of the year when his opponent red lighted in the finals. For Rampy, it
was his 84th final round appearance of his career and 54th win. The
Winnebago sponsored Rampy will next compete in a Division 2 Lucas Oil
Drag Racing Series event in Orlando before traveling onto Gainesville,
FL for the Gatornationals. David uses Hoosier's 33.0/12.0-15 C12 drag
tires.
Congratulations also go out to Tony Stephenson in Comp
Eliminator. Tony drove his GM Performance Parts Cavalier C/EA to a
semi-final finish on the Hoosier brand.
STOCK
In Stock, Toby Lang made it two-in-a-row to start the NHRA season
winning for the second consecutive week. Last weekend, he won the
K&N Filters Winternationals in Pomona, CA and was Hoosier's only
winner in the season-opening event. Lang also benefited when his
opponent red lighted in the final race. Lang uses Hoosier's
30.0/9.0R-15 C06 radial drag tires.
SUPER GAS
Rod Fuller, using a pair of Hoosier 33.0/16.015 D05 drag tires, also
was a winner in the Super Gas final when his opponent red lighted. The
last win for the Valvoline sponsored Fuller was last November in the
Auto Club Finals at Pomona, CA.
SUPER STREET
In Super Street, it was two Hoosier-shod chariots locking horns to
determine a winner. Ray Carlson used a .018 RT to get an early
advantage over Richard Tucker who posted a .049 RT. Carlson then
combined his brilliant reaction time with a 10.923 ET for a .023
package on the 10.90 index to take the win. Tucker did well with a
10.938 ET for a .038 package, but not good enough for the win. It was
Ray Carlson's first-ever National event win.
Congratulations to all the drivers competing on
USA-made Hoosier tires. The NHRA Series next travels to Gainesville,
FL for the 35th annual Mac Tools NHRA Gatornationals on March 18-21.
