CHANDLER, AZ (February 20-23) -- After carrying four
drivers to the finals in the NHRA season opener in Pomona,
Team-Hoosier did one better this past weekend when five drivers made
the final round at the Checker Schuck's Kragen NHRA Nationals. Those
Hoosier-shod drivers making it to their respective class finals were:
David Rampy (Comp Eliminator), Gerry Nelson (Super Comp), Larry Scarth
and Jerry Denton, Jr. (Super Gas), and Doug Young (Super
Street).
COMP ELIMINATOR
The Hoosier brand was not only the #1 qualifier in Comp Eliminator,
the purple tire brand was also the #2 qualifier as well. David Rampy
took #1 qualifier honors using Hoosier's new 33.0/12.0-15 drag tire.
Rick Distefano was the #2 qualifier using Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16 C2000
tire. In the final, David Rampy took home runner-up honors with his
7.468 second (-.542) run.
SUPER COMP
Gerry Nelson also took home the runner-up award for Team-Hoosier in
the final round in Super Comp.
SUPER GAS
In Super Gas, it was an all-Hoosier final where Larry Scarth met
Jerry Denton, Jr. Denton got the jump at the light with a .010 RT to
Scarth's .013 RT. But Scarth was able to close the advantage and take
the lead at the line with a 9.907 ET to Denton's 9.934 ET. Scarth's
margin of victory was approximately 5 feet.
SUPER STREET
Doug Young was narrowly defeated in Super Street competition. Both
drivers in the final round broke out and the margin of victory was a
scant .001 second difference that relegated Young to runner-up honors.
OBSERVATIONS:
The Hoosier brand had more cars in the sportsman finals than any other
tire manufacturer.
The next event on the NHRA schedule is March 13-16, in
Gainesville, FL for the 34th annual Mac Tools NHRA
Gatornationals.
