BAYTOWN,
TX (April 15-18) -- For the seconds NHRA Event in a row, Team Hoosier
had five drivers make it all the way to the final round in their
respective class finals at the 17th annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring
Nationals. In Top Alcohol Dragster, David Wells made it to the final
contest in his Wells Dairy B/AD car. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Team
Hoosier was looking for its third consecutive National event win. The
chances of notching No. 3 were pretty good with both drivers riding
atop the Hoosier brand in the finals with Jay Payne and Steve
Gasparrelli locking horns. Jeff Miller was in the final race in Stock,
while Erica Enders (photo) was looking for her first career National
event win in Super Gas.
TOP ALCOHOL DRAGSTER
David Wells rocketed off the starting line with a .073 RT to his
opponent's .112 RT to take the early race lead. Wells, however, had to
settle for runner-up honors when his opponent posted the better ET by
48-hundredths of a second. Wells did, however, post a faster speed
than his adversary at 263.31 mph--more than 5 miles an hours faster
than his opponent's 258.17 mph speed.
TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR
In T/A Funny Car, it was another classic Camaro vs. Firebird clash
when Jay Payne in the Valvoline Camaro met Steve Gasparrelli in the
Prisms Unlimited Firebird. Both drivers left the line quickly with
Gasparrelli taking the early lead with a .062 RT to Payne's .098 RT.
But Payne more than made up the deficit with a 5.560 ET (260.36 mph)
to Gasparrelli's 5.885 ET (240.81 mph) to take the national event win.
Both drivers rode on Hoosier racing tires during the event.
STOCK
Jeff Miller settled for runner-up honors on Hoosier 30.0/9.0R-15
radials in the Stock class after red lighting in the final race.
SUPER GAS
Erica Enders took the early lead at the light with .015 RT to her
opponent's .048 RT and then powered to the win by about three feet at
the finish line. Enders posted a 9.933 ET--.033 over the 9.90 index to
capture her first career National event win. The historic win for
Enders came while competing on Hoosier racing tires.
Hoosier Engineer Brad Hicks attended the NHRA Spring
Nationals in Texas along with Hoosier's NHRA Track Service Manager
John Adamo who attends every NHRA event.
The NHRA Series will take this weekend off before
returning to action at Bristol, TN for the 4th annual O'Reilly NHRA
Thunder Valley Nationals, April 30-May 2.
