BRISTOL,
TN (April 25-27) -- The Hoosier brand continued their string of
impressive performance over the past weekend with six Hoosier-shod
drivers making it to the final round of the Mac Tools Thunder Valley
NHRA Nationals. Among those battling their way into their respective
class finals were Fred Hahn and Mitch Stott (Pro Mod), David Rampy
(Comp Eliminator), Bryan Merkle (Stock), Kent Hanley (Super Comp) and
Bob Phillips (Super Gas).
PRO MOD
The Pro Mod class featured the two quickest door cars in history and
it was no surprise the two cars were also riding on Hoosier drag
tires. The final race pit previous event winner, Mitch Stott, who was
now in his 4th straight NHRA final meeting Fred Hahn--also no stranger
to the winner's circle. The two rode atop a pair of Hoosier
34.5/17.0-16 C2000 drag tires. Stott, in the '63 Radiac Adhesives
Corvette, got off the line first with a .044 RT to Hahn's .068 RT. But
Stott's car crossed over the centerline giving the national event win
to Hahn in the '02 Summit Racing Corvette. Hahn's time was a
blistering 6.231 seconds (226.54 mph).
COMP ELIMINATOR
In Comp Eliminator, David Rampy continued his impressive run toward a
national championship while riding on a pair of newly introduced
Hoosier 33.0/12.0-15 C10 drag tires. Fresh off his 46th national event
win at Las Vegas, Rampy was not going to be denied yet another
victory. Rampy was handed the victory when his opponent broke just
after staging his car in the final round.
STOCK
Bryan Merkle, using Hoosier 30.0/9.0-15 C07 radial drag tires gave a
great effort but had to settle for runner-up honors in Stock.
SUPER COMP
Kent Hanley got the better jump off the line on his Hoosier
33.0/16.5-15S C07 drag tires, but he broke out on the 8.90 index
handing the win to his opponent in Super Comp. As a result, Hanley also
settled for runner-up honors.
SUPER GAS
In Super Gas, Bob Phillips took the win for Team-Hoosier after his
opponent red lighted in the final. The win was the first one in 16
years (in the class) for Phillips.
Hoosier Drag Racing Product Manager Steve Hudspeth
attended the 3-day event in Tennessee and commented on the
performance, "We have been extremely pleased by the dominance of
the new 33.0/12.0-15 C10 tire that David Rampy took his 47th national
win with." Hudspeth added, "It was also very exciting to see
the two quickest door-slammers slug it out in the Pro Mod final. Our
(Team-Hoosier) goal is to build on this weekend's success as we
move on to Atlanta this weekend."
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. congratulates all the
competitors using the Hoosier brand at this year's Mac Tools Thunder
Valley NHRA Nationals. The entire Hoosier organization appreciates the
