BRISTOL TN, (April 29) -- Hoosier-shod teams continued to shine at the
latest NHRA national event in Bristol, TN on Sunday. Every final in
which Hoosier tires competed, a Hoosier-shod car emerged victorious in
the Inaugural Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals this past weekend.
Winners included, Jay Meyer in Federal-Mogul Dragster, Steve Harker in
Federal-Mogul Funny Car, Mark Dickerson in Stock and Brian Sorce in
Super Comp.
FEDERAL-MOGUL DRAGSTER
It was an "all-Hoosier" final on Sunday in the
Federal-Mogul Dragster class as Jay Meyer met Bill McCornack. Meyer
continues his comeback after a crash earlier in the year in which he
severely injured his back. McCornack red lighted as Meyer had a 5.506
ET (254.04 mph) to take the win.
FEDERAL-MOGUL FUNNY CAR
Repeating the "all-Hoosier" theme was the Federal-Mogul
Funny Car class as Steve Harker met Todd Veney in the finals. Both
competitors ousted strong opponents in the semi-finals as Veney beat
Frank Manzo and Harker defeated Jay Payne. (Both Manzo and Payne are
on Hoosiers as well.) In the end, Steve Harker emerged victorious over
Todd Veney for the win.
STOCK
In Stock class, Mark Dickerson defeated Dan Fletcher in the final.
Dickerson's Hoosier mounted ride had a .531 RT to Fletcher's .534 RT.
Dickerson's ET was 11.553 (-.047) to Fletcher's ET of 11.722
(-.058).
SUPER COMP
Finally, in Super Comp competition, Brian Sorce defeated Tom
Hunter to give Hoosier five National wins in six events in the 2001
season. Sorce used a .409 RT to Hunter's .416 enroute to the victory.
Sorce had an ET of 9.00 (.010), while Hunter had a 9.031 ET (.041).
