LAS
VEGAS, NV (April 4-7) -- Six Hoosier-shod drivers made it to the final
round of action at the 3rd annual NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals at
The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway over the weekend. Those drivers
making it to their respective class finals were: Darren Nicholson and
Mark Hentges in Top Alcohol Dragster, Larry Miner and Ron August, Jr.
in Top Alcohol Funny Car, Ashley Jeffery in Super Comp and Jim Hughes
in Super Gas.
TOP ALCOHOL DRAGSTER
Darren Nicholson met fellow Hoosier-shod driver Mark Hentges in the
Top Alcohol Dragster final. Nicholson got the jump at the light with a
.451 RT to the defending runner-up National Champion's .482 RT.
Nicholson then posted the better ET of 5.544 to Hentges' 5.556 ET to
take the win as both drivers rode atop Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16 C4000
drag tires. Nicholson was hot off his Division 7 win at Tucson, AZ on
March 31.
TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR
In the second "all-Hoosier" final, Larry Miner met Ron
August, Jr. in the Top Alcohol Funny Car final with both drivers
riding on Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16 C2000 drag tire. Although Miner got
the win after August red lighted, Miner had his best run of the
weekend. Miner had a 5.809 ET (246.12 mph) in his final run of the
day. Amazingly, all 16 qualifiers in the T/A Funny Car class rode on
Hoosier tires.
SUPER GAS
Jim Hughes took the win in a double breakout final. Hughes used
Hoosier's 33.0/16.0-15 D05 drag tires to capture the class win.
Hughes' ET was closest to the 10.07 index to take the win. Hughes' ET
was 10.049 (-.021) over his competition's 10.018 ET (-.052).
RUNNER-UP FINISHES
In addition to Mark Hentges and Ron August, Jr. collecting runner-up
finishes in the T/A Dragster and T/A Funny Car finals, Ashley Jeffery
collected runner-up honors in the Super Comp final using Hoosier's
33.0/16.5-15S C07 drag tires.
Congratulations to all the competitors trusting Hoosier tires to
compete on at this year's NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals.
Hoosier Drag Racing Product Manager Steve Hudspeth attended the
event and reported the details for this report.
The series resumes this weekend for the 15th annual O'Reilly NHRA
