ENGLISHTOWN,
NJ (May 15-18) -- The Hoosier brand continued its torrid pace in the
NHRA Series over the weekend during the running of the 34th annual
K&N Filters SuperNationals carrying six drivers into the final
round. In Pro Mod, Mitch Stott did it again making it to the final
round meeting fellow Hoosier-shod driver Mike Ashley. Amazingly, Stott has been in all four Pro Mod finals this year.
While in Top Alcohol Dragster, Douglas Foley carried the Hoosier
colors into the final round. Veteran Frank Manzo was in the finals in Top
Alcohol Funny Car and Al Vanis in the Stock final. John Bruzzo was yet another Hoosier-shod driver rewarded
with a trip to the finals in the Super Comp class.
PRO MOD
It was another record-setting weekend in the Pro Mod class. The event
featured the quickest Pro Mod field in history. Mitch Stott once again
battled his way to the class finals. Stott met fellow Team-Hoosier
member Mike Ashley in the final round. With both
drivers using Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16 C2000 drag tire, the contest was
going to be close. When the tree turned green, it was Ashley getting
the jump with his .014 RT to Stott's .071 RT. But Stott in the '63
Radiac Abrasives Corvette, wasn't to be denied as he tracked down
Ashley driving the InfiNet '41 Willys. Stott powered to a 6.132 ET for
a speed of 230.69 mph to Ashley's 6.280 (226.51 mph) to take the win.
Stott has now made it to the finals in Pro Mod all four times coming
away with two wins.
TOP ALCOHOL DRAGSTER
In T/A Dragster, it took a mechanical breakdown in the final round to
defeat Douglas Foley and his 34.5/17.0-16 C2000 drag tires. Foley was
nearly twice as fast off the light than his opponent with a .046 RT,
but when his engine failed, his opponent was able to motor past the
disappointed member of Team-Hoosier. As a result, Douglas Foley
settled for runner-up honors in the class.
TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR
Frank Manzo, once again, made it to the final round in T/A Funny Car.
Manzo, who had recorded 52 national event wins, also uses
Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16 C2000 drag tires. Despite facing a familiar foe
in the final round, Manzo was not to be denied his 53rd national win. The driver of the
Kendall Motor Oil Firebird, posted the better light (.056 ET to .106
ET) and the better ET (5.622 ET/260.01 mph to 5.661 ET/254.38 mph) to
take the win--his 53rd national win.
STOCK
In Stock, Al Vanis, using Hoosier's 30./9.0-15 C07 radial tires, was
the purple brand's only hope for a national win in the class final.
Vanis did not disappoint, cutting down
the tree with a .012 RT gaining the early advantage over his opponent (.130
RT). The '77 LeMans driver went on to claim the win in Stock before a
cheering crowd.
SUPER COMP
In Super Comp, John Bruzzo took the national event win using Hoosier's
33.0/16.5-15S C07 drag tires. Bruzzo captured the win with a better
reaction time (.016 RT to .018 RT) and the better elapsed time (8.905
ET to 8.915 ET).
The final numbers had Team-Hoosier with six drivers
in the final round of their respective classes. In the end, four drivers took away
national wins and two settled for runner-up honors. The Hoosier
brand hopes to build on the success enjoyed at Englishtown as the NHRA
Series travels next to Topeka, KS for the 15th annual O'Reilly Summer
Nationals.
