JOLIET, IL (May 20-23) -- Team Hoosier had the second
highest number of drivers in the NHRA finals this past weekend in the
7th annual NHRA Route 66 Nationals in Chicago. Just one short of the
number of finalists achieved earlier this season at the Gatornationals
in Florida and more than twice the total combined number of drivers
competing on other brands in the five classes in which Team Hoosier
competes. In fact, Team Hoosier had a finalist in all five classes. In
Pro Mod, Fred Hahn made it to the final round using Hoosier's new
34.5/17.0-16 C2050 tires, while David Rampy was a finalist in Comp
Eliminator. Both Stock and Super Comp had a pair of Hoosier-shod cars
vying for a National event win. Nick Krueger and Shane Carr battled
their way to the finals in Stock, while Nick Folk and Charles Siegler
(photo) were the final competitors in Super Comp. In Super Gas, it was Brian
Smith carrying the Hoosier banner into final round in the NHRA Route
66 Nationals.
PRO MOD
Fred Hahn, driving the Summit Racing '01Corvette, was the #1 qualifier
in Pro Mod using Hoosier's new 34.5/17.0-16 C2050 tires. For the
second event in a row, Hahn was the #1 qualifier at 6.191 seconds.
Despite running a fastest time than his opponent in the final race at
228.34 mph (vs. 225.63), Hahn settled for runner-up honors in the
class. He also set low ET of the event in Pro Mod with a time of 6.185
seconds in the first round.
COMP ELIMINATOR
David Rampy carried the Team Hoosier flag into the final round in Comp
Eliminator. When the race was over, Rampy fell just short of his
second National event win of the season by just 10" at the finish
line.
STOCK
In Stock, two Hoosier-shod cars were in the final round with Wally
Krueger looking for his first National Event win and Shane Carr
looking for his second of the season. When the race was completed,
Krueger took the win crossing the line about two feet in front of Carr
to claim his first National event victory.
SUPER COMP
In Super Comp, Nick Folk and Charles Siegler fighting their way into
the final round. Both drivers got off the line quickly with Siegler holding a slight edge with a .021 RT to Folk's .028 RT. Folk made up
the difference with the better ET (8.887 seconds to Siegler's 8.849
ET) in a double break out final on the 8.90 index. Folk's package was
-.013 to Siegler's -.051 which was enough to capture his first
National event win of the season.
SUPER GAS
In Super Gas, Brian Smith was runner-up in the class.
The event was attended by Hoosier Drag Racing Product
Managers Faron Lubbers and Steve Hudspeth. As always, Hoosier NHRA
Track Service Manager John Adamo was at the event in Chicago handling
customer needs out of the fully-stocked Hoosier truck.
Congratulations to all the Team Hoosier competitors
who carried the Hoosier colors valiantly during the running of the 7th
annual NHRA Route 66 Nationals.
The NHRA Series is back in action this weekend, May
27-30, at Topeka, Kansas where Hoosier's new 32.0/13.5R-15
radial drag tire (#18247) will be put to the test in Super
Stock.
