COMMERCE, GA (May 2-5) -- The 22nd
annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals was the latest
stop on the POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule. Once again, Hoosier tires
made their presence felt, as six drivers made it all the way to their
respective class finals. Drivers making it to their class finals were: Thomas
Patterson, Pro Mod; Cliff Bozzelli, Top Alcohol Dragster; Jay Payne, Top Alcohol
Funny Car; Mark Horton and Jeremy Jensen, Super Gas; and Mike Giuliano, Super
Street.
TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR
Jay Payne made it to the T/A Funny Car final using Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16 C2000
drag tire. Payne made up a .022 deficit at the light by posting a 5.704 ET
(253.47 mph) to take the win over his competitor and his 5.739 ET (250.04 mph).
Payne also set low ET of the event at 5.636 seconds. SUPER
GAS
The question whether there would be a Hoosier-shod winner in Super Gas was a
foregone conclusion as both drivers were members of Team-Hoosier. Mark Horton
met Jeremy Jensen in the class final. Horton, using a pair of Hoosier
33.5/17.0-16 C06 drag tires and was the first Summit team car to take a
class final win at this year's Summit Equipment Southern Nationals. RUNNER-UP
FINISHERS
Thomas Patterson was runner-up in the Pro Mod class while using Hoosier's
34.5/17.0-16 C2000 drag tires. Cliff Bozzelli and his Hoosier 34.5/17.0-16
C4000 drag tires took runner-up honors in T/A Dragster. As reported, Jeremy
Jensen was runner-up in Super Gas, while Mike Giuliano earned runner-up honors
in Super Street. Hoosier Drag Racing Product Manager Faron Lubbers was at the
Southern Nationals in Georgia to answer any tire related questions the teams
and drivers had and monitor tire performance during the exciting event. The
next stop on the series schedule is May 16-19, at Englishtown, NJ for the 33rd
annual Matco Tools SuperNationals.
