COLUMBUS, OH (June 13-16) -- It was another solid
performance by teams opting to trust the Hoosier brand in NHRA
competition over the weekend, as six drivers made it all the way to
their respective class finals in the 38th annual Pontiac Excitement
Nationals. Those drivers making it to the final round of the class
were: Shelly Howard, Top Alcohol Dragster; Mark White and Frank Manzo,
Top Alcohol Funny Car; Jeff Potts, Stock; Josh Kamplain, Super Comp;
and Chuck Lundquist, Super Street.
TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR
It was the only Hoosier vs. Hoosier final round in Columbus over the
weekend. Marc White, in the Etterman Racing Firebird, met
veteran Frank Manzo in the Kendall GT-1 Avenger R/T in the Top Alcohol
Funny Car final. White has lane choice and gets a holeshot to get the
jump on the defending National Champion. White's RT was .455 to
Manzo's .468 RT. White wins this one with a 5.730 ET (250.13 mph) to
Manzo's 5.721 ET (249.07 mph). White won by less than two feet at the
line as both drivers were riding atop Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16 C2000
drag tires.
STOCK
In Stock class, Jeff Potts takes the win using a pair of Hoosier
30.0/9.0-15 C07 radial drag tires. In a double break out, Potts used a
.565 RT coupled with an ET of 11.127 seconds (-0.013) to take his
first national event win.
SUPER STREET
Chuck Lundquist takes the win in Super Street after his competition red
lighted in the final round.
OTHER RUNNER-UP FINISHERS
Shelly Howard captured runner-up honors in T/A Dragster, while Josh
Kamplain took runner-up honors in Super Comp after red lighting in the
final round.
Congratulations to all the teams, drivers and fans for
supporting Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. in our efforts to produce the
best racing tires in the world.
The next event for the NHRA Series is June 27-30, in
Madison, IL for the 6th annual Sears Craftsman Nationals.
