HEBRON,
OH (June 12-15) -- Team-Hoosier traveled to Columbus, Ohio this past
weekend to compete in the 39th annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals
presented by Summit Racing. And even though the weather was wet, the
event was eventually completed as six drivers using the Hoosier brand
battled their way into their respective class finals. In Top Alcohol
Dragster, Jeff Bohr was in the final contest, while in Top Alcohol
Funny Car, Frank Manzo (see photo at right) carried the Hoosier banner
into that class' final round. In Stock, it was Bob Letellier in the
finals and Jason Lynch in the Super Comp final. In Super Gas, it was
an all-Hoosier final when Terry Eckard met Steve Cohen to determine a
national event winner.
TOP ALCOHOL DRAGSTER
Jeff Bohr and his Hoosier drag tires took home runner-up honors in the
T/A Dragster final after he was unable to fire his Bar's Leak B/AD for
the final contest.
TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR
Frank Manzo was aiming for his 54th national event win after
making it to the final round in the T/A Funny Car class. Manzo uses
Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16 C2000 drag tires. Manzo, in the Kendall Motor
Oil Firebird, met a familiar opponent in the Valvoline Camaro of Bob
Newberry in the final battle in the class. Manzo and his Hoosiers were
more than ready posting the better light (.038 RT /.103 RT) and the
better ET (5.622 ET / 5.714 ET) to take the win. Manzo's ET and speed
(257.04 mph) was tops in the class for the event. Congratulations
Frank Manzo on winning your 54th national event on Hoosier tires!
STOCK
Bob Letellier earned runner-up honors in Stock on Hoosier tires.
This contest was the final one of the event in Columbus.
SUPER COMP
Jason Lynch also took runner-up honors in Super Comp for Team-Hoosier
in his Summit sponsored car.
SUPER GAS
In Super Gas, it was a pair of Hoosier-shod drivers battling it out
for the national event win. Terry Eckard met Steve Cohen in the final
contest with Eckard shooting for his first national win. Eckard got
the early advantage in this one with a near-perfect light (.004 RT).
Eckard then captured the win with a 9.911 ET for his first national
event win. Congratulations Terry Eckard on winning your 1st
"Wally" of your career!
The wet weather provided for some interesting moments
at the Columbus event that was attended by John Adamo, Hoosier's Track
Service Manager and Hoosier Drag Racing Product Manager Faron Lubbers
as evidenced by some of the photos that were taken at the event. Can
you guess who's service truck got stuck?
