HOOSIER CARRIES FOUR NHRA DRIVERS
TO BRAINERD FINAL ROUND

8-20-2001

Federal-Mogul Funny Car Winner: Jay PayneBRAINERD, MN (August 16-19) -- The National Hot Rod Association traveled to Brainerd, Minnesota for the 20th annual Colonel's Truck Accessories NHRA Nationals, where four Hoosier-shod drivers made it to the final round of competition. The four drivers were each in four separate classes, so the Hoosier brand in the winner's circle was not as assured as was the case in Sonoma, California where amazingly, three class finals had a pair of Team Hoosier cars going head-to-head. Jay Payne would be Hoosier's single car in Federal-Mogul Funny Car action, while Clint Sallee was the single "Hoosier hopeful" in Comp Eliminator. In Stock, it was Nick Folk and Mike Bolden in Super Gas carrying the purple banner into their respective class finals.

FEDERAL-MOGUL FUNNY CAR
In Federal-Mogul Funny Car class, Hoosier was the tire brand on the top FIVE qualifiers, including top qualifier, Jay Payne in his Valvoline Camaro. The division's current national points leader, Payne would get the jump at the light with a .543 RT to his competition's .553 RT. From there, Payne aboard his Hoosier 34.5/17.0-16 C06 drag tires, set a new track record after posting a blazing 5.699 ET (250.74 mph) to take home the title.

STOCK
In Stock competition, Nick Folk in a '95 Chevy Camaro benefited from his opponent's red light en route to his victory in the final round. Folk had an RT of .561 and a 12.009 ET on an 11.82 dial which yielded a .189 index. In claiming the class title, Folk used a pair of Hoosier 30.0/9.0-15 Radial C07 drag tires.

SUPER GAS
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. placed it's hope's for a Super Gas winner on San Diego's Mike Bolden. The final round resulted in a double break out, with Bolden recording a .425 RT to his opponent's .413 RT. Bolden's 9.977 ET versus a 9.961 ET resulted in a -.003 reading on the over/under index as both competitors were on a 9.98 index. The victory was Bolden's first ever national event win and gave Hoosier it's third class title of the event.

In Comp Eliminator competition, Hoosier-shod Clint Sallee made it to the last round before red lighting in the class' final race. The early jump cost Sallee any chance at the win. So Hoosier drivers emerged class winners in three of the four final rounds they competed in.

Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. would like to thank and congratulate Team Hoosier members who competed so successfully at Brainerd this past weekend.

Next up for the NHRA series is August 29-September 3, for the 47th annual Mac Tools US Nationals at Clermont, Indiana.
