SONOMA,
CA (August 2-4) -- Team-Hoosier matched its best performance of the
season in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series over the weekend as nine
Hoosier mounted rides made it into the final round of competition in
the 15th annual FRAM-Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma,
CA. The nine driver total matches Team-Hoosier's performance at
Houston and Englishtown earlier in the year. The nine drivers making
it to the finals in their respective classes were: Steve Federlin (Top
Alcohol Dragster), Larry Minor and Steve Gasparrelli (Top Alcohol
Funny Car), John Chamberlin (Comp Eliminator), Kyle Seipel (Super
Stock), Anthony Castillo and Larry Scarth (Super Comp), Mike Ferderer
and Rod Hartzell (Super Gas).
TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR
It won't be the first Wally of the season for either of the two competitors
in the T/A Funny Car final. With two national events wins, Larry Minor
met Steve Gasparrelli, and his one national event win, in one of three
Hoosier vs. Hoosier finals at Sonoma. Minor, in a Camaro, got the jump
at the light over Gasparrelli in a Firebird. Then, the timing system
malfunctioned on Minor's lane which caused quite a stir. But it was
clear at the line, Minor crossed a full car-length ahead of
Gasparrelli to take the win. Both drivers use Hoosier's 34.5/17.0-16
C2000 drag tires.
SUPER STOCK
Kyle Seipel was the only Hoosier-shod driver in the Super Stock final
as his opponent opted to use another tire brand. But Seipel and his
Hoosier tires would not be denied yet another class win despite a
tardy launch by the Californian driver. Seipel came from behind to nip
his adversary at the line by one one thousandth of a second to take
the win.
SUPER COMP
In the Super Comp final, a pair of Hoosier-shod mounts would do battle
when Anthony Castillo met Larry Scarth. Castillo got the early jump at
the light with a .403 RT to Scarth's .438 RT. Both drivers broke out
during this one with Castillo the lesser offender to take the win.
Castillo with an 8.881 ET (-.019) to Scarth's 8.874 ET (-.026) takes
his first national event win of the season.
SUPER GAS
Mike Ferderer was shooting for his second Wally of the year in Super
Gas. This time, he met Rod Hartzell who was also competing on Hoosier
tires. Ferderer takes this one at the light with a .421 RT to
Hartzell's .522 RT, while Ferderer notches his second national event
win of the season.
RUNNER-UP FINISHERS
In addition to the Hoosier-shod runner-up finishers in the three
"all-Hoosier" finals, congratulations to Steve Federlin in
T/A Dragster for taking home runner-up honors in his class, while John
Chamberlin took runner-up in Comp Eliminator.
Hoosier Drag Racing Product Manager Steve Hudspeth
attended the FRAM-Autolite Nationals in Sonoma and had this to say,
"The new (Infineon Raceway) facility is awesome and our Hoosier
tires worked well on the new surface as evidenced by their numbers in
the finals." Hudspeth added, "In the seven classes Hoosier
tires compete in, nine of the 14 competitors in the finals used
Hoosier tires."
The NHRA Series will resume action on August 15-18, at
Brainerd, MN for the 21st annual Colonel's Truck Accessories NHRA
Nationals.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. thanks all the teams,
drivers and fans who continue to support our efforts to provide the
best drag racing tires on the market today.
