ENNIS,
TX (September 23-26) -- Team Hoosier had a great showing at the 19th annual
O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas over the weekend with seven
Hoosier-shod drivers battling their way to their respective class
finals. When it was all over no other tire company had more Sportsman
wins than the Hoosier brand. Among those using the purple tire brand
in the finals were Jay Payne and Tate Branch in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
In Stock, it was brother-vs.-brother when Jeromy and Jeff Hefler
(photo) met in the final round. Gary Stinnett earned a trip to the
final round in Super Comp as did Jonathan Womack in Super Gas and Jay
Bunce in Super Street.
TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR
In the T/A Funny Car, the two Hoosier-shod camaro's of Jay Payne and
Tate Branch were in the finals. Both drivers had nearly identical
reaction times off the line with Branch leaving the line in .053
seconds to Payne's .055 seconds. But both pilots had mechanical
problems forcing them to shut down early with Payne crossing the line
first. Payne took the win while using a pair of Hoosier 34.5/17.0-16
C2050 drag tires.
STOCK
In Stock, it was Jeromy Hefler meeting his brother Jeff Hefler in the
final round. Jeff got the edge at the starting line with a .036 RT to
Jeromy's .047 RT. But Jeromy, driving the red Camaro in the photo, had
the better package (.005 vs. .030) to capture the win in the
all-Hoosier final.
SUPER COMP
Gary Stinnett settled for runner-up honors in Super Comp when his
opponent had a near-perfect reaction time. Despite this, Stinnett came
up short by a mere 15 inches at the line.
SUPER GAS
Jonathan Womack made his second career final appearance in Super Gas.
Womack and his Hoosiers got the jump at the light with a .009 reaction
time to his opponent's .032 RT. Womack then posted a 9.911 ET (9.90
index) crossing the finish line ahead on his adversary to claim his
first national event win.
SUPER STREET
Jay Bunce, riding on a pair of Hoosier drag slicks, also captured his
first National event win (.021 RT/10.914 ET/10.90 index) when his
opponent broke out in his attempt to track down the race winner.
The final tally had seven Hoosier-shod drivers
fighting their way into the final round of their respective classes
with four of them coming away with a Wally--more than any other tire
manufacturer in the seven Sportsman classes.
The NHRA Series is back in action this weekend in
Chicago for the 4th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts NHRA Nationals. Hoosier
Drag Racing Product Managers Faron Lubbers and Steve Hudspeth will
both be in attendance. You are welcome to stop by the Hoosier trailer
and view our extensive drag racing line. Look for the new Hoosier
D.O.T. Radial Drag tire that will be on display as well.
