NASHVILLE,
TN (November 5, 2005) -- This past Saturday, the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series banquet was held in Nashville recognizing its champions. It was the
first season a new system was used to determine the champions. Peyton Sellers
won the overall national championship and becomes the youngest national
champion in series history. Sellers competed in Division I, while Chris Spieker,
Kevin Nuttleman and Donny Reuvers were the other three Division champions.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. is proud to report that all four champions claimed
their titles while riding on Hoosier tires.
This year, the 67 NASCAR sanctioned tracks in North America were divided
into four Divisions (Divisions I, II, III, IV). NASCAR points were awarded to
the top class at each track. Both dirt and asphalt tracks competed under the
same rules which awarded points based on how each driver finished and also
awarded additional points for the number of cars in each race. The more cars
competing, the more bonus points earned.
At the end of the season, a driver was ranked on their best 16 finishes of
the season at all tracks within a Division with four Division champions being
crowned. The overall national champion was the driver who had amassed the most
points of all drivers competing at the 67 tracks.
NASCAR, Dodge and other sponsors awarded nearly $1.7 million dollars in
prize money this season to participants in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series.
Peyton Sellers claimed the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series national title
having won 15 times during the season while accumulating 1,114 points. Sellers
won $25,000 for winning the Division I championship and an additional $50,000
for claiming the national title.
Chris Spieker, the only champion to claim his title competing on dirt
tracks, captured the 2005 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division II championship.
The 35-year-old driver earned $25,000 for the championship. Spieker had 14 wins
and 29 top-five finishes while ending the season with 1,088 points.
Kevin Nuttleman won the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division III championship
with 1,068 points. The 45-year-old driver from Wisconsin pocketed $25,000 for
his stellar performance at LaCrosse Speedway.
Donny Reuvers earned the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division IV championship
competing at two tracks each week in Minnesota. Ruevers' double-duty earned him
$25,000 for the Division IV title and another $15,000 for also finishing in
second place for a total of $40,000 in prize money. The 26-year-old driver
recorded eight wins at Elko Speedway on Saturdays and 12 wins at Raceway Park
on Sundays while tallying 1,072 points during the 2005 season.
Hoosier's Terry Newton and Irish Saunders attended the annual awards banquet
honoring the Division champions in Nashville last Saturday. During the
ceremony, Saunders presented a monogrammed, purple leather Hoosier jacket to
Peyton Sellers for his national championship win. Sellers also received a
$5,000 check from Hoosier for being the top finishing car in the series on
Hoosier tires.
Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. wishes to congratulate Peyton, Chris, Kevin and
Donny for their championships and also thank them, and all the other drivers,
for competing this year on the Hoosier brand in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series.
