MECHANICSBURG,
PA (March 23) -- After several weeks of cancellations, Williams Grove
Speedway was finally able to open their 2003 season. When it was all
over, Cris Eash had won the 62nd season opener for 410 sprints at the
famous Pennsylvania 1/2-mile track. Eash won the 25-lap feature using
a Hoosier RD12/RD15 combination. He also pocketed $3,000 for the
victory. The win for the Hoosier brand comes after compiling a perfect
90-0 record in central PA last season. Not only did Team-Hoosier
capture the win, they also swept the top nine positions in the night's
sprint feature race as reported by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic's Bobby
Wirts.
Finishing runner-up to Eash, who is running for
championships at both Williams Grove and Lincoln Speedway in 2003, was
Lance Dewease. Todd Shaffer finished third followed by Fred Rahmer,
Greg Hodnett, Keith Kauffman, Len Thompson, Brook Weibley and Dale
Blaney in fourth through ninth, respectively. All nine competed using
USA-made Hoosier tires.
Williams Grove Speedway continues to run an open tire
rule forum while Lincoln Speedway elected to exclusively run Hoosier
tires after last season's dominance of the Hoosier brand in an effort
to reduce costs to their competitors. Ironically, only 3 of the 24
feature starters opted to run another tire brand.
