In response to the demand for a quality rain tire, Hoosier Racing Tire
has announced the release of the P-Metric wet tires that have been in
use in the Grand-Am Cup Endurance Series, (formerly known as the
Motorola Cup Endurance Series).
These tires are radial construction and based directly on the R3S03
design. They are molded with a heavier gauge tread and hand cut to
match the existing tread pattern. The compound is a dedicated
"wet" tread based on the very successful rain tires from the
Hoosier lineup. The tire has been run in a variety of conditions and
has proven to be a very effective wet weather tire and has held up to
the conditions of a drying track.
This tire, while based on a DOT approved design, is not certified
as DOT legal. Due to the process and limitations involved in hand
cutting, it cannot be DOT certified. At this point, the tire has been
approved for use in BMW Club Racing in all classes, and is eligible in
many other club type applications as well.
In venues that require a DOT legal tire this would not meet the
criteria. We are presently working with the various organizations to
get specific approval for this tire.
